Armor protection in Starfield is a gameplay mechanic that absorbs a portion of the damage dealt to the hero, depending on the equipped gear. At the moment, it is known that the entire suit will consist of a helmet, spacesuit, backpack, and clothing. Each element differs in characteristics, resistance to damage, and environmental resistance.

Armor Characteristics in Starfield

Each type of armor has three main types of protection:

• Physical (PHYS) - resistance to physical damage. Protects against ballistic damage + standard melee weapons;
• Energetic (ENGY) - resistance to energy weapons, such as lasers;
• Electromagnetic (EM) - resistance to electromagnetic weapons.

Additional protection against environmental influences:

• Thermal - resistance to high or low temperatures (presumably);
• Air filtration - protection against air pollution, toxic spores, gases (presumably);
• Corrosion - resistance to corrosion;
• Radiation - resistance to radiation.

Other characteristics:

• Mass - weight of the item;
• Cost - equipment price in credits.

Types of Armor

Spacesuit

The main type of armor that covers the entire body of the character and provides the most buffs. Known types of spacesuits at the moment:

• Explorer Spacesuit;
• Mercenary Spacesuit;
• Constellation Spacesuit;
• Navigator Spacesuit.

Helmet

Provides additional protection, but less than a spacesuit. Known helmet types at the moment:

• Mercenary Helmet;
• Explorer Helmet;
• Navigator Helmet;
• Constellation Helmet;
• Ground Crew Helmet;
• Sniper Helmet;
• SY-920 Pilot Helmet;
• Alliance Helmet;
• Pirate Helmet.

Jet

The Jetpack is the main means of movement in Starfield. The character will be able to move vertically and jump. The type of backpack will affect movement speed, jump height, and additional abilities.

Clothing

Clothing is worn under the spacesuit, and it is currently unknown what impact it will have and what characteristics it will add. It is possible that clothing is a set in which the hero will move through locations outside of open space.

How to Obtain Armor in Starfield

The main ways to obtain armor:

• Buy from a vendor;
• Craft;
• Obtain as a quest reward;
• Loot from defeated enemies.

Armor will allow access to new territories and planets that the hero could not previously access, for example, due to radiation or high temperatures.
