In Starfield, you can acquire spaceships not only through legitimate means but also through illicit activities such as stealing and appropriating them for yourself. Engaging in piracy allows you to obtain ships with various characteristics and features, enabling you to choose those that suit your preferences.

How to Obtain a Spaceship in Starfield

At the start of the game, you'll receive your first spaceship - the "Frontier." Others can be purchased from a store or stolen. The selection will vary on each planet. If you can't find the ship you want on one planet, simply travel to another and consult the local traders.

How to Steal a Spaceship in Starfield

Stealing a ship is a random event that occurs during your travels in space. As soon as you encounter any hostile ship and receive the side quest "Eliminate all enemies and steal the vessel," follow these instructions:

  1. Disable the enemy ship's engines with precise attacks;
  2. Land at the location where the defeated ship remains and board it;
  3. Clear the ship of enemy NPCs;
  4. Approach the pilot's seat and interact with it;
  5. Send the captured ship to a spaceport – it will automatically be transferred to your inventory;
  6. Conduct a technical inspection of the ship with an NPC;
  7. "Register" the ship for credits. After this procedure, the ship will be fully yours.

The registration process is not mandatory but is necessary if you want to do more with the ship than simple flights, such as modifying or selling it.

Please note that stealing ships of class B and C requires a proficient Piloting skill.
