Moara Otero – a member of the UC Vanguard and one of the potential companions you can recruit in Starfield. However, to do this, you need to successfully complete the mission "The Old Neighborhood."

How to Complete the Old Neighborhood Mission

"The Old Neighborhood" is the second main storyline mission in Starfield. Access to it becomes available immediately after completing the previous mission, "One Small Step."

Talk to Sarah Morgan

Sarah will ask you to follow a lead from the UC Vanguard. From this moment, she will become your companion and assist you throughout the mission.

Head to the UC Vanguard Astronaut Training Center

There, speak with the UC Vanguard Commander, John Tuala, who is Sarah's contact.

After the conversation with the commander, you will begin a side quest called "Supra Et Ultra," which, when completed, allows you to join the UC Vanguard, receive a special suit, boosters, and ship upgrades.

John will direct you to find Moara, a volunteer who possesses an artifact.

Travel to Mars

Set course for the planet Cydonia, specifically to the spaceport. Keep in mind that your ship will undergo a contraband check. We have a separate guide explaining what contraband means in Starfield and what contraband offers in Starfield.

Next, follow these steps:

  • Head to the Cydonia Mining Colony;
  • From the colony, go to the bar in the Central Hub area.

In the bar, speak with the bartender, Jack. However, he will only talk to you after you pay off Moara's debt, which amounts to 2500 credits. Another option is to persuade Jack without spending your valuable credits. Sarah can help with that by pressuring the bartender and making him tell the truth. If you can't get the information for free, Jack will guarantee a reduction in the payment from 2500 to 1000 credits.

In any case, Jack will recommend that you head to Venus and continue the search for Moara there.

Travel to Venus

On the map, set your course for Venus. As you approach the planet, Sarah will initiate a dialogue and warn you that there are many enemies ahead, known as the Va’Ruun Zealots. You can choose to fight them or bypass them to ensure your safety.

Approach the beacon Sarah mentioned and retrieve the data from it. You will learn that Moara is located in the Nova Galactic Staryard area.

Travel to the Moon

As you approach the moon, Sarah will speak to you again, but this time about Earth. She will explain what happened to the planet and why it is in such a dire state.

Dock at the Nova Galactic Staryard

After docking, board the ship, where you will encounter astronauts you need to deal with. Eliminate all the mercenaries.

There is a lot of valuable loot on the ship, so don't miss out on the shelves, storage crates, and locked doors.

In the center of the ship on a table, you will find a tablet with information about Moara. Your next destination is Neptun.

Rescue Moara

Upon nearing Neptun, your ship will be attacked. Be prepared to fend off the attackers. It turns out that Moara's ship is being controlled by invaders. Your goal is to disable the ship's engine to immobilize it and board it.
