Goblin Priestess Faithful Gut in Baldur's Gate 3: how to find and kill

30 aug 2023 at 8:48

Goblin Priestess Faithful Gut is one of the three leaders of the goblins, along with Minthara, and a possible companion in Baldur's Gate. Like other characters you'll meet or have met on your journey, Priestess Gut will offer to cure the hero of the parasite.

However, she doesn't actually want to help you – instead of a cure, she will offer a sedative. This means you'll have to fight her in any case, and this battle will be tough.

In this guide, we'll explain how to prepare for the battle with Faithful Gut and what combat tactics to choose.

Where to Find Goblin Priestess Faithful Gut

Head to the Goblin Camp. Go through the Extinct Village, but be prepared to encounter patrols.

Another group will meet you on your way to the camp. Dealing with them will be much harder, so consider these alternatives:

  • Intimidation – charisma check of 15;
  • Deception – charisma check of 15;
  • Nature – intelligence check of 15;
  • Illithid power – wisdom check of 2.

If you pass any of these checks, you can avoid combat and pass the patrol.

In the sanctuary, you'll face another obstacle – a guard. Try intimidation, deception, or mind reading (intelligence check of 9).

Pass the guards – Priestess Gut will be sitting next to a throne. Talk to her, follow her to the adjacent room. Note that this gesture won't be well-received by some companions.

As soon as you wake up after Gut's potion and attempt to escape after passing the Easy Athletics or Acrobatics test, the priestess will attack. Polma will also join the fight.

Battle Tactics: Goblin Priestess Faithful Gut

Option 1

As soon as the battle starts, lead your companions into the room where your character stayed.

Tips for a successful fight:

  • Choose archers, crossbow users, mages – ranged attacks are most effective;
  • If you engage Gut after killing Dror Ragzlin, she'll hide behind the throne – position someone from your party there in advance;
  • Gut deals less damage than the Cannibal – try to deal with the Cannibal first;
  • Spread out your party members across the area: climb the ladder on the right side, place an archer/mage/crossbow user on the beams, leave one hero in the doorway, preferably Halsin;
  • Try to attack the boss from above;
  • Make sure to use healing through Shadowheart;
  • Wait until the priestess stands in the center of the room and shoot the chandelier above her head – it will fall and deal extra damage;
  • Destroy the war drums in the corners of the room to stop goblin spawns.

The main challenge of the battle is the large number of mobs, including strong ones like the Cannibal and Gut herself. Focus on dealing damage and survival.

Option 2

The above tips apply if you engage Gut BEFORE falling asleep from the potion. If you have already accepted her offer but haven't fallen asleep yet, try to surround the priestess in the room with the help of companions while she's still alone there.

Do not initiate dialogue with Gut! Otherwise, you'll automatically start the combat from Option 1.

Option 3

In this case, you won't have to put in any effort. Simply follow Gut into the room, drink the potion, agree with everything she says, and let her rummage through your thoughts. Wait for Korilla to arrive, who will attack Gut and kill her.

There won't be any negative consequences, and this option is the easiest.

Should You Accept Help?

From all the outcomes provided, it can be concluded that Gut's assistance will be futile, and any choice will lead to a battle. She is inherently hostile towards the main character and won't be of any benefit. You might agree only to try a different method of defeating her.
