In this guide, we will talk about all the builds for Sayu, her unique features, as well as the best weapons and artifacts for this character. Let's get started!

Best Build for Sayu in Genshin Impact

Sayu is the best 4-star character for exploring Teyvat, thanks to:

  • Her passive talent "Yoohoo Art: Fuuin Dash"
  • Her two-handed weapon type, which allows for quick mining
  • Anemo vision synergy, increasing movement speed when combined with other characters
  • Her Elemental Skill (E), which is suitable for fast movement, has a similar speed to Fischl's Elemental Burst, and has longer duration with no energy loss.

Description of the most important constellations for Sayu:

  • At C1 - Dharma of the Anemo heals allies and damages enemies simultaneously.
  • At C6 - The damage and healing of Dharma gain an additional bonus based on Elemental Mastery (Sayu's maximum bonus is achieved at 2000 Elemental Mastery).

Best Builds for Sayu

For Sayu, there are three successful build options.

1) Healer at C0-C5

Choose ATK% for the Hourglass and Goblet, and either Healing Bonus or ATK% as the main stat for the Circlet. For low energy cost (ER), choose an ER hourglass with ATK%, EM, and flat ATK as substats. Hunt for substats such as Elemental Mastery, Energy Recharge, and flat ATK. For the Feather and Flower, prioritize ATK%, Elemental Mastery, Energy Recharge, and flat ATK.

2) Healer at C6

Now choose Elemental Mastery for the Hourglass, Goblet, and Circlet. For low energy cost (ER), choose an ER hourglass with EM, ATK%, and flat ATK as substats. The most useful substats will be percentage ATK, Energy Recharge, and flat ATK. For the Feather and Flower, prioritize Elemental Mastery, ATK%, Energy Recharge, and flat ATK.

3) Hybrid

Choose ATK% for one of the pieces (Hourglass/Goblet/Circlet), and Elemental Mastery for the remaining two. The substats should be similar - look for Elemental Mastery, ATK%, and CRIT. Be sure to obtain the new crafted sword from Inazuma or the Favonius Claymore. This build allows the healer to deal more damage and works well with any constellation, with the main competitor being the C6 Healer build.

Crits for Sayu: Why Does She Not Need Them?

Let's consider two scenarios.

Sayu C0-C5

For her, the most important stats are ATK, which scales her healing, and Elemental Mastery, which contributes to healing through the Swirl reaction. Sayu has relatively low base ATK, an expensive Elemental Burst, and increased Elemental Mastery through ascension. In order for her to perform well as a healer, she needs to prioritize ATK and, most importantly, Energy Recharge.

Without Energy Recharge, a significant portion of Sayu's damage potential is wasted because her Elemental Burst relies on frequent casting. However, if you are willing to sacrifice ATK, you can focus on crit rate. Just keep in mind that crit rate without a high ATK stat becomes useless. Furthermore, prioritizing crit rate directly reduces Sayu's healing potential, and her damage-dealer abilities are significantly weaker compared to other popular 4-star characters like Fischl, Xiangling, and Xingqiu.

Sayu C6

The situation doesn't get any easier here. To maximize Sayu's damage and healing, she needs 2000 Elemental Mastery! With three artifacts having Elemental Mastery as the main stat (187 each), a Feather and Flower with 60 Elemental Mastery as substats, and the Dragonspine Sword with 187 Elemental Mastery, Sayu reaches 964 Elemental Mastery. If you take away Elemental Mastery, her C6 loses its meaning. Sayu's ATK will indeed be low, but the Swirl reaction will become noticeably stronger, and healing from this reaction will also increase.

And most importantly, the Swirl reaction does not depend on crits, only on Elemental Mastery.

So, what does this mean? Sayu loses her potential as a healer without ATK and Elemental Mastery. At the same time, if you make her a DPS, the decrease in damage becomes noticeable. For example, Sayu's normal attack deals 30% less damage compared to Razor's normal attack.

The damage numbers play a role in the Abyss, where the next problem becomes apparent - the 10-second duration of her Elemental Skill takes up a significant amount of time and deals below-average damage.

Conclusion: Is It Worth Investing in Sayu?

Sayu is an interesting character. She is the best character for exploring Teyvat and also has decent potential in the Abyss. She is not overpowered or the best 4-star character, but she brings something new to the game.

  • Her role in the Abyss is a pocket healer and support who uses the Viridescent Venerer set and has high Energy Recharge.
  • Her role in the world is to facilitate continent exploration and crystal fly collection.

A Few Words about the Sayu Banner

Currently, the banner featuring Sayu also includes one of her main competitors - Diona.

If you don't have a healer and support for the Abyss, you have a high chance of getting Sayu or Diona from the banner.

However, if you need an ideal character for exploring Teyvat or if you are simply a fan of the character and a collector, then you should aim to obtain Sayu specifically.

But if you are afraid of missing out on guaranteed pulls for future 5-star characters or if you don't need other 4-star characters from the banner, don't despair. In version 2.1, Sayu will be added to the standard banner, making it much easier to obtain her. Good luck!
