The Witcher 3 game has something to boast about. It's no wonder it has earned the love of numerous gamers and positive reviews from critics. But despite such achievements, the game also has its flaws, which vary for each player. In this article, we will highlight the most commonly mentioned drawbacks by gamers.

The game doesn't fully adhere to the canon 

This particular drawback is often pointed out by true experts of this universe. Even Sapkowski himself didn't react very kindly to the game, specifically mentioning this flaw. Geralt doesn't quite match the book's original portrayal, and some characters are simply missing from the game. The same applies to characters who made it into the game but have discrepancies compared to their book counterparts. However, the main events of the game world are depicted accurately.

Abundance of dialogue 

During gameplay, you may notice that Geralt engages in very lengthy conversations with other characters. Every action is accompanied by dialogue, often consisting of simple exchanges. For example, merchants will say something before initiating a trade, and then Geralt responds. All of this gives an impression of drawn-out interactions. Moreover, many of these dialogues lack significant meaning.

Quite a complex storyline for newcomers

The third installment gathers characters and events that can be quite challenging for someone who lacks prior knowledge of Geralt's adventures and his companions. In this aspect, the third installment falls behind the first two. The complexity arises from the interconnectedness of characters, but newcomers may not understand when and how these connections were established. The Wild Hunt storyline, in particular, can become confusing and distant. One could dig into sources "on the go," but it would slow down the gameplay.

Voice acting 

The criticism here is not directed at the voice actors themselves. The issue lies in the sound mixing, which often lags or gets ahead of the visuals. As a result, it can be challenging to decipher the words of certain characters, especially Triss the sorceress. However, this problem is not exclusive to the Russian voiceover but extends to other languages as well. The Polish developers focused on lip-syncing, although some players complain about the voice acting itself, finding it non-canonical and arbitrary.

High hardware requirements 

The Witcher 3 may not run smoothly on all computers, despite its release year. Attempting to adjust the settings to make the game work is usually futile. While this can't be considered a significant flaw, it is still a notable aspect. Players want to enjoy an interesting game on their current computers.

Gwent gameplay. For some players, it's the least interesting part of the game. Moreover, Gwent has to be played quite frequently since certain quests require it. To become proficient in the game, one must practice and pay attention. There is an opinion that Geralt shouldn't be playing Gwent so often and should focus more on finding Ciri, who is being pursued by the Wild Hunt.

Frequent reliance on Witcher senses

Often, progressing through quests involves holding down the right mouse button (RMB) to find clues. This means running around locations for quite some time without fighting or engaging in other activities. For some players, this isn't very convenient, and they would prefer more opportunities to apply logic and attentiveness rather than relying on the Witcher senses alone. Sometimes this reliance feels lacking, but there are quests where it's simply unavoidable.

Skellige island design 

Some gamers note that navigating the island can be quite inconvenient. It's easy to come across cliffs and dead ends, requiring you to find detours and waste time. Questions may also arise regarding the inhabitants of this island, where you would expect to encounter fierce raiders. However, things aren't exactly as they seem in practice.

Sorceresses Yennefer and Triss

The relationships between the sorceresses and Geralt have raised questions among a certain portion of players. The sorceresses can engage in relationship complications, which doesn't reflect positively on their reputation. Additionally, it can be said that due to the earlier parts of the Witcher game series, it's easier to become attached to Triss rather than Yennefer. This is despite the fact that Yennefer plays an important role in Geralt of Rivia's life. And also in Ciri's life, in her own way.

Inconsistencies in the storyline

Sometimes this can be noticed while playing the game. For example, the attire for a wedding will have higher armor rating than Geralt's equipment. It doesn't happen frequently, but it can catch your eye during gameplay. This is just one example of such inconsistency that is also present in some quests.

It's worth noting that both objective and subjective flaws are gathered here. And this is not even a complete list. For example, some part of the gaming community is skeptical about Ciri, who is presented in The Witcher 3. Some also express disappointment about the limited portrayal of the war with Nilfgaard, which sweeps away any resistance in its path, while others were let down by the implementation of the Wild Hunt characters. But these are personal opinions of each individual.

Despite all the flaws, obvious and not so much, the game is definitely worth dedicating time to and immersing oneself in the world of the Witcher Geralt, as well as helping him find and save Ciri. An added bonus is the excellent graphics that allow you to admire the landscapes. The monsters are also implemented impressively, allowing for a complete immersion in the gameplay.
