In the "Survival" mode of Fallout 4, there are many dangers:

• Explosives: Mines, rockets, and Molotov cocktails have significant destructive power, enough to kill an unprotected character instantly;
• High falls;
• Melee enemies;
• Ranged enemies.

To counter this array of dangers, power armor can be helpful. It increases your chances of survival. But what if there's no power armor? Let's explore what can be done in such a situation.

Firearms

If your character's defense is weak for open gunfights, it's recommended to eliminate enemies from a distance, preferably while in stealth mode. During conversations with other characters, avoid combat. If a dialogue ends negatively, the hero will find themselves in close proximity to several enemies. So it's better to choose your words carefully and not provoke the interlocutors.

Without power armor, drugs can compensate for its absence. In critical situations, they will be indispensable. The key is to remember to use them.

Abilities

Strong Back

There are a total of 5 points for improvement. It will be sufficient to level it up to the second rank, which provides +50 to carrying capacity. Ignoring this ability will require the character to make frequent trips back to the base.

Life Giver

This ability increases the maximum health. There are three ranks in total. Each rank grants +20 to health. Fully upgrading it will provide the hero with an additional +60 health. Health will also regenerate when the character is out of combat.

Solar Powered. This ability becomes available when the Endurance is leveled up to rank 10. During daylight hours, the character receives significant bonuses:

• At rank 1, +2 to Endurance and Strength from 06:00 to 12:00;
• At rank 2, the character becomes immune to radiation when exposed to sunlight.

These effects are inactive during nighttime and indoors.

It also relieves the character of the need to carry around meat for healing. Having a couple of bottles of Nuka-Cola will be sufficient.

Ghoul

This ability has 4 ranks. With it, the character can restore their health through radiation. At rank 3, ghouls may join you as allies.

Sneak

This ability is useful for stealth gameplay. It increases your chances of remaining undetected. You can also ignore mines and traps, as they won't activate if stepped on.

Power Armor Nuances

You need to be careful and not explore every location indiscriminately. Some places will trap you in the armor, and it will be impossible to escape. You can only jump into such places if you have a means to get out.

Power armor makes survival mode easier. The player can, for example, visit the "Boston Library" and have some fun with the enemies. The only serious threat to a power-armored character is a nuclear-charged super mutant (kamikaze).

Aside from that, problems may arise when encountering:

• Children of Atom;
• Laser turrets;
• Sentry bots.

Tips

The Vertibird is useful for fast travel. However, it should be noted that it's not available everywhere. This means of transportation is only accessible through the "Brotherhood of Steel."

The character will be susceptible to diseases. There are many ways to contract them. Ignoring them can result in serious negative effects. To cure diseases, you can:

• Use antibiotics;
• Visit a doctor.

In addition to upgrading the "Strong Back" ability, you can increase your carrying capacity through:

• Ada, the robot;
• Upgrading armor pieces with the "Deep Pockets" or "Pocketed" properties.

Finally, it's worth mentioning that you can save the game anywhere in the game world, not just at beds. However, such saves can be risky if the character dies after loading. In that case, they will return to the last bed save location.
