Top 10 Games Based on Movies

The premiere is being shown on the big screen. The audience, taking their seats, gradually immerse themselves in the whirlpool of events. The atmosphere in the hall electrifies and then discharges. The plot twists are so cleverly thought out that people are still impressed long after the session ends. There are no indifferent viewers. The movie turned out to be successful, and the producers are considering extending the success of the film.

Time is running out. According to critics, the creators have no more than a year until the movie's rating and number of views start to decline. Therefore, something needs to be quickly come up with before the audience loses interest. But it may take years to produce a sequel. The release of DVD and BluRay discs with additional material will only fuel the interest of the fans.

Some companies then decide to release a game based on the movie. A controversial decision. There is no time to create an AAA project, and investing money in releasing an unfinished product - what if it doesn't pay off? And the audience is unlikely to be happy to receive a low-quality game. They will feel deceived, and they will be right. There are many examples of such cases. But are there truly high-quality games that have managed, if not to replicate the success of the film, at least not to spoil the source material? The answer: yes. And today we will talk about what these games are and why they have appealed to the audience.

Fallout Series

"War... War never changes."

A series of role-playing games whose main idea is based on the film "Mad Max." The developers from Black Isle Studio, responsible for the first two parts, mentioned in one of the interviews that they were inspired by this film. They were particularly impressed by the action-packed atmosphere.

The concept of the film closely relates to the game's ideological twists. In both creations, the heroes encounter a mad post-apocalyptic world. Lawlessness reigns in the wastelands, and those tiny islands of surviving civilization seem outdated and weak to viewers and players, incapable of resisting the new world order. And only the main character can withstand the mindless anarchy and attempt to change the course of events for the better.

Star Wars Universe

The games released under the "Star Wars" brand on the PC platform alone amount to about 50 titles. Some of them turned out to be successful, others were booed by the public, and some were somewhere in between, but any project always met with a special warmth. And if the players were satisfied, the game gained cult status.

Just remember KotOR and KotOR 2. Both parts were hugely successful not only among devoted fans but also managed to attract and hold the attention of millions of players worldwide. Thus, giving hope for the release of new movies and game projects.

The Thing

A horror that provided both viewers and players with an atmosphere of loneliness at the edge of the world. Stephen King's idea of leaving the hero alone with a cold and hostile place was embraced by the audience.

The main character cannot escape - outside, a snowstorm rages around the scientific and residential blocks, and inside, the "Thing" hides, systematically destroying the personnel of the polar station one by one. There are two options: fight or die. The polar researchers choose to fight. The parasite must be found and destroyed before it annihilates everyone and reaches the mainland.

Alien Game Series

In the near future, the crew of an interplanetary ship is under the threat of extinction. The cause is the creatures that use human flesh to incubate embryos of their race. The more "Alien" manages to breed embryos, the larger the army under the control of the alien Queen. The only one who can stop her is the main hero. Just like in the film, the game's protagonist dons sturdy armor, acquires several types of weapons, and while exploring the spaceship, exterminates hordes of monsters. In the end, he must confront the Queen Mother alone and secure another chance for humanity to survive.

Riddick Chronicles

Action thriller that fully corresponds to the eponymous film. The player will follow the movie hero through the same locations, fight against a multitude of soldiers, travel to several planets aboard different interplanetary ships, get captured, and escape.

It is worth noting the abilities of the main character, transferred from the movie to the game. Riddick, endowed with the ability to see in the dark, can use this feature during stealth missions. His inhuman strength and survival instinct allow him to overcome hordes of enemies and emerge victorious from confrontations. Despite certain aspects, even in the overall course of events, the game project stands on par with the cinematic experience.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

A gritty game based on the spin-off about Wolverine, the character with adamantium claws and unstoppable physical strength from the Marvel universe. The project turned out to be almost better than the movie itself.

The developers did not limit themselves in terms of methods and animations for killings and the amount of gore, giving the game complete freedom. Fans were satisfied. The variety of carnage per square inch provided hardcore gamers with hours of unforgettable pleasure.

Additionally, the game's plot correlates with the film at times, creating a complete project that continues the traditions of the movie with Hugh Jackman in the lead role.

South Park

South Park is an unabashed social irony on everyday life, on everything happening in the world today. The charismatic schoolchildren who satirize politics, conspiracies, movie stars, and show business play the roles of the game's heroes, just like in the animated series and film.

All these qualities have been transferred to the world of computer games. However, the concentration of mockery and problems here takes on an unimaginable significance. Every quest is accompanied by select jokes, characters swear, always timely and in line with their animated prototypes.

The success of the game was predicted even at the start of its development. And so it happened. "South Park: The Stick of Truth" and its follow-up "South Park: The Fractured But Whole" turned out to be irreverent, beautiful, and funny games, and the audience has been demanding a sequel for several years.

The Godfather: The Game

A noir action game based on the cult film "The Godfather." Although the project falls slightly short of the success of its main competitor, "Mafia," it maintains the overall narrative and captures the style of the era. Moreover, the main character is not obliged to follow a linear plot. The game offers freedom of action. The character can take on side quests, engage in shootouts with the police and rival gangs, earn money by transporting passengers or stealing cars. The game is filled with cynical humor inherent to gangsters, intense showdowns, unexpected plot twists, love, and betrayal.

Lego The Hobbit

An incredibly beautiful RPG that draws its inspiration from "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. Everything in this game is remarkable: from the opening scenes to the final credits. The retelling of the story is accurate, the landscapes are stunning and vibrant, the dialogues are filled with drama, humor, love, and hatred. It feels as if the developers have outdone the creators of the great movies.

After completing the game, you won't want to return to the familiar world - you become so attached to the plot and characters. It's as if you're immersed in the whirlwind of events. And when it's over, you have to bid farewell.

Blair Witch

"The Blair Witch." This film caused quite a stir in the late '90s when it positioned itself as a documentary. Especially the story behind the appearance of the tape. Many people believed in the authenticity of what was happening on the screen and were deceived. But the aftertaste overcame this deception - even knowing the truth about the story being fictional, many continued to believe in the existence of the Blair Witch.

The game takes us to the places where the main characters found themselves in the film's plot. It makes us feel abandoned in the deep forest, where every rustle of leaves and crackle of twigs underfoot is deadly terrifying. The narrative is interspersed with easy puzzles, rare dialogues, beautiful landscapes mixed with dark ones, and moments of escaping from an unknown force. Only the main character can find out what really happened.
