The first part of the game is remembered by many for its atypical combat using a flashlight (Flashlight). In the sequel, the item is also used to combat enemies. The flashlight helps gain a tactical advantage in battles with mobs shrouded in darkness. In Alan's (Alan Wake) and Saga's (Saga Anderson) story, the item is obtained differently.

Where to Find the Flashlight While Playing as Saga

Since the character is from the FBI, she has the flashlight from the first minutes of the game. You just have to wait for the first dark scene. You will be able to use the flashlight in combat about an hour into the game.

Where to Find the Flashlight While Playing as Alan

You can find the flashlight, which will be lying with a revolver, in the second storyline mission called "Initiation 2: Casey." The item is located in The Dark Place near the exit from the television studio.

Meet Alex Casey (Alex Casey). 

After talking to him, walk along the alley, where you will find a corpse. Examine it and pick up the revolver and flashlight. For this, you will receive the hidden achievement "Find The Light."

There is another location where you can pick up a flashlight. In the mission "Return 4: No Chance." At the beginning of the mission, exit the building, and there will be a corpse near the entrance. Pick up the double-barreled shotgun and flashlight.

How to Use the Flashlight

As already mentioned, the flashlight in Alan Wake 2 is not just a tool for illuminating the path but also a weapon. By default, each platform has its own button for using the flashlight:

• If you are playing on PC, press the middle mouse button;
• On the PlayStation 5 gamepad, press the "circle" button;
• On the Xbox gamepad, press the "B" button.

Using the tool consumes batteries. You can find them as you progress through the game. They are in lunchboxes, various storage containers, and boxes. Batteries can also drop from enemy corpses.

The flashlight can be upgraded using Words of Power. They are awarded as rewards for solving puzzles. There is a special category of words of power: light (Words of Lamp). 

Such upgrades can only be obtained in Alan's storyline. Saga, on the other hand, can upgrade the flashlight with the help of charms on her bracelet, which are awarded for solving children's puzzles.
