The world of Valheim is vast, and sometimes traveling within its bounds can be very tiresome, especially if you ventured far from your base. Although the game lacks a traditional fast travel system, you can use an alternative method - portals. 

In this guide, you will learn how to create and use portals in Valheim. Let's get started!

How to Build a Portal

To create a portal, you will need three ingredients:

• 10 Greydwarf Eyes.
• 20 Fine Wood.
• 2 Surtling Cores.

Note that you will need two portals for teleportation, so don't forget to make another one. 

You can easily obtain Greydwarf Eyes by killing any monster of that type. To obtain Fine Wood, you will need a Bronze Axe and birch or oak trees. As for Surtling Cores, we have covered where to find them in this article.

Once you have acquired the necessary materials, equip your hammer and open the build menu. You will find the portals under the "Miscellaneous" tab. 

Select the portal and place it on the ground near the workbench. You will receive a message from the raven indicating that you need to place a second portal. Once you find a suitable location for the second structure, place the workbench, cover it, and build the second portal next to the new workbench.

If this is your first set of portals, they will be automatically connected to each other, and you can use them right away. Simply walk through the portal when it starts glowing, and you will return to the original location. 

How to Link Portals with Tags

If you plan to use multiple portals, you need to understand the tagging system. The first two portals you place will automatically be connected to each other. 

Subsequent portals will need to be named with the same tag using the tagging system. To change the portal's tag, simply approach it and press E. By entering the same word, the portals will be linked.
