The first serious boss in this game Valheim is a troll. It won't be easy to defeat him, for that you will have to resort to special strategies.

Trolls are huge monsters that inhabit the Black Forest. They have a large amount of HP - 600 units. We do not recommend getting hit, as it will take away a large portion of your HP. This enemy is very dangerous both in melee and at a distance.

Tactics for defeating the troll in Valheim

The most effective way to take down the monster - attack from a distance using a bow. This method is not the fastest, but it is reliable. The troll will constantly throw huge boulders at you, simply dodge them by rolling. Use fire arrows, they will increase the damage to the monster. 

Aim for the head, as you will inflict additional damage to the creature and contribute to its stun. It's better to hunt the creature in a group, as you will have a clear advantage. 

Before starting the battle, sneak as close to the troll as possible, but maintain a distance of 20 meters. Always try to attack first. While the first boulder is not flying towards you, stand still and conserve your energy, you will need it later. 

The creature will chase the hero, and your task is to continue attacking and wait for it to swing for a hit. At that moment, run in the opposite direction of the swing. Then just do the same over and over again until the creature dies. Try not to get closer, otherwise, you will face troubles.  

Gamers have invented another method - attacking from underground. The method is very simple: find a dungeon, lure the monster there, and attack. If the troll attacks you, simply take a few steps back, it won't be able to reach you there. 

If you enjoy active action, then fight it in close combat, but it's not the best idea. You need to be a true professional to defeat the monster in close combat. Bronze armor and a shield won't help you much. Don't forget that the troll can knock down trees, and they deplete the entire durability in one go. 

Search for the troll cave

They are all located in the same Black Forest biome. Visually, it looks like a passage made of stones. There are a huge number of bones lying in front of the entrance. Stay vigilant, the monster is somewhere near the cave, as well as two more inside.  

By defeating all the trolls, you can collect a huge amount of treasures in the cave: amber pearls, bone fragments, gold coins, yellow mushrooms. 

What rewards can you get from the monster

Once the creature is defeated, you will receive 5 troll hides, a lot of coins, and the "Troll" trophy. The last gift will rarely drop. You can use the hide to craft armor for yourself. 

The creatures can break absolutely all trees without exception. This will be useful for the character at the early levels when they are not yet able to cut them down. Sometimes trolls break underground veins with copper - this is also beneficial for you. You will get bronze even before the first level boss.
