Tin in Valheim: Locations, How to Mine and Use Tin Ore

26 feb 2021 at 10:00

Tin is one of the most important metals available to players in Valheim. Without tin ore, you will never be able to progress beyond simple stone and flint tools.

In this guide, you will learn where to find tin deposits in Valheim, how to mine it, and what you can do with tin ingots. Let's go!

Where to Find Tin Ore in Valheim

You can find deposits of tin ore along the coastlines of the Black Forest - one of the main biomes covering the Valheim map. Unlike copper, tin ore occurs in small rocks with silver veins running through them.

Tin is quite common along the shores of the Black Forest biomes, so you will likely come across several clusters of tin ore grouped together.

The Black Forests are mainly inhabited by Graydwarfs, Skeletons, and Trolls, but since they reside deep within the Black Forest rather than along the coast, searching for and mining tin ore can be considered a relatively safe activity.

You can mine tin using an Antler Pickaxe. Also, clear the area before setting out as this ore is heavy (like other metals).

How to Smelt Tin

To smelt tin ore into tin ingots, you will need a smelter. You can craft a smelter using 20 stone and 5 Surtling Cores (found in Burial Chambers and other dungeons in the Meadows and Black Forest biomes).

With the smelter fueled with an adequate amount of coal (2 coal per ingot), you can smelt tin ore into tin ingots. The tin ingots themselves can be used to craft a Cauldron.

However, the primary use of tin is to alloy it with Copper, which allows you to forge Bronze (the first major metal you can use in the forge to craft new and stronger tools, weapons, and armor).
