How and in what ways do the difficulty levels of Resident Evil: Village differ?

In the eighth installment of the legendary game, the story continues to unfold around Ethan Winters. The game will change depending on the difficulty level you choose.

In this guide, we will talk about the difference between difficulty levels in RE8 and how to unlock "Village of Shadows." Let's get started!

How to Change Difficulty Level and Unlock "Village of Shadows"

Currently, there are four difficulty levels in the game - Casual, Standard, Hardcore, and "Village of Shadows" for the most daring players. You can unlock and use the first three difficulty levels as you progress through the game, but you can only use the last one after completing the storyline - no sooner.

If you want to start playing "Village of Shadows" right away, you can purchase the "Field Pass."

Think twice before doing this because the level is appropriately named "Village of Shadows."

Next, you will need to choose a difficulty level that cannot be changed during the process. Keep in mind that when you want to replay the game but still keep all your equipment, RE8 has such a feature.

Casual Difficulty in Resident Evil Village

This level is for those who want to familiarize themselves with the game or haven't been into shooters for a long time. The difficulty won't give you any challenges; you can simply relax and get used to the controls: enemies fall after a couple of shots, and there will be plenty of ammunition.

Don't focus too much on chests and other things because they won't be useful to you as you'll already have an abundance of them.

After completing the storyline, you will receive the achievement "Good Father," and you will be able to use the USM-AI pistol and the "Dragoon" assault rifle.

Standard Difficulty in the Game

If you consider yourself an experienced player with a sufficient background in completed games, then this level is for you. Be prepared for tough fights with many bosses, and you'll need to search chests and frequently visit the Duke to survive.

We recommend spending all the money you earn on upgrading equipment and weapons right away.

After completing this level, you will be bestowed with the title "Great Father" and be able to obtain the "Dragoon" assault rifle.

Hardcore Difficulty

The main difference in this difficulty level is that enemies become much more resilient than before. Now you won't be able to get by without searching chests and wells; otherwise, you simply won't be able to overcome this level.

We recommend applying the right development strategy from the start: spend money on upgrades, conserve ammunition, and aim accurately. Make the shotgun your must-have weapon; it's incredibly helpful throughout the game. After completing the level, you will receive the reward "Father of the Year" and three types of weapons.

"Village of Shadows" - The Most Challenging Level

Prepare yourself because you'll have to push hard. This level won't be easy, even for the most experienced and skilled players. Enemies have a tremendous amount of health, and some sections of the game are intentionally challenging. For example, during the battle with the first boss, you'll have to defeat not only her but also two additional enemies.

Before embarking on this level, we recommend fully upgrading your weapons and only then engaging in combat. It will also be useful to acquire infinite ammunition. Good luck!
