? Why is PUBG Lite closing at the end of April?

2 apr 2021 at 10:17

PUBG Lite - a free version of the hugely successful Battleground from PUBG Corps, will be closed at the end of April 2021. The game can no longer be installed, but those who already have access can spend any game credits until April 29th.

In the announcement, published on the official PUBG website, the developers explained that closing the free version was a difficult decision that required "long deliberations".

The post ended with the company thanking the players who loved and played PUBG Lite, saying:

“We sincerely hope you enjoyed spending time with us.”

The reason why this version is closing is unknown, but it is quite likely that PUBG Lite was trying to compete with the mobile version of the game with all its might, and that players prefer to play on their phones rather than use the low-spec PC version.

The announcement does not mention what will happen to the unspent credits that players do not spend. So it looks like a "use it or lose it" scenario.

PUBG Corp. has two more games in development that take place in the PUBG universe. PUBG: New State is the continuation of PUBG Mobile, which you can read more about here.
