How to do Brutality in Mortal Kombat

Brutalities - the same as Fatalities, meaning finishing off your opponent when they have very little health left, but in a more brutal fashion. Brutality moves have been a part of the Mortal Kombat series since the first installment, and of course, the new game hasn't forgotten about them.

In this guide, you will learn how to perform a Brutality in Mortal Kombat 1, and what it offers you.

How to Perform a Brutality

Just like Fatalities, Brutalities are executed by pressing specific buttons when the opponent's health is almost at zero. The challenge with Brutalities is that they are often more difficult to perform, requiring more button inputs. This is why Fatalities are more commonly used. However, this is not the case for some characters, like Raiden, who only needs to press three buttons.

The combinations for performing Brutalities are unique to each character. In Mortal Kombat 1, you can view all possible moves for your character during the actual fight. Here's how:

  1. Select the fight for a specific character;
  2. Pause the game and access the menu where there is a list of all possible moves for your character and the button sequence you need to press;
  3. Go to the "Finishers" section - there, you'll find buttons for Fatalities, and below that, Brutalities.

Open the "Advanced View" section to get more information about the move. Remember the key condition: Brutalities are only available when the opponent is on the brink of defeat; otherwise, the button combination won't work, and you'll miss the opportunity for that extra punch.

You CANNOT perform Fatalities or Brutalities during the story mode - only in all other game modes.
