How to tame animals in Minecraft

Domestication is an integral part of gameplay. It allows you to feel like a tamer of wild animals. The key is to approach all types of animals correctly.

Taming a Horse

Perhaps the most useful animal in the game. The most challenging part is finding a horse since they usually spawn only in plains or savannas.

Once you find the horse, all you have to do is saddle it. To do this, right-click on it. A free-spirited horse doesn't like someone encroaching on its freedom, so it will throw off the player.

It takes several attempts to fully tame the horse. Eventually, the horse will give in and no longer resist. This moment will be considered full taming. Next, you need to find a saddle. Without it, tamed horses will be uncontrollable. Additionally, you can equip your horse with armor for added protection.

The game also features donkeys and mules. Donkeys occasionally spawn in the wild. Mules, on the other hand, are obtained by breeding a donkey and a horse after feeding them a golden apple or a golden carrot.

Donkeys and mules cannot wear armor, but they can carry a player's items using chests.

Taming a Llama

An animal used for creating caravans. You can attach a chest to a llama by right-clicking on it. The number of available storage slots depends on the llama itself. These animals can be found in mountains and savannas. They also spawn together with wandering traders.

Taming a llama is easy: you need to saddle it several times, just like with a horse. However, there is one significant difference - llamas cannot be controlled while riding them. The only way to control them is with a lead. It can be crafted using 4 strings and a slimeball.

Next, a funny scene unfolds. If you lead a tamed llama near other llamas, they will line up in a single file following the lead. This is called a caravan. However, only 10 animals will follow in this way. To have more llamas in the caravan, you need to attach a lead to another llama. Caravans can be formed indefinitely.

Taming an Ocelot

After the 1.14 update, ocelots and cats became separate animals. Now you can't tame jungle inhabitants, but there is still a way to befriend them.

To do this, you need to venture into the jungle where these small animals live. Then, you must hold a raw salmon or a raw cod without moving. The ocelot will approach the player on its own. After that, all you need to do is feed the little predator. With a 1 in 3 chance, the ocelot will become friendly towards the player and will not disappear if you move too far away.

The main advantages of these animals have not changed. They still help in repelling creepers and phantoms.

Taming a Cat

Now it is a separate mob, not a tamed version of an ocelot. Cats can be found in villages with at least 1 villager and 4 beds. Black cats always spawn in Witch Huts.

Taming cats is done in the same way as ocelots. After taming, a tamed cat will have a collar. The color of the collar can be changed using dyes.

Cats provide the same benefits as ocelots. The only difference is that cats also guard the player's sleep and bring gifts when the character wakes up. The chance of receiving a gift is 70%.
