Fishing has long been a well-established source of decent F2P weapons. Previously, Samaritans had to literally fish for spears and bows, but now, with the release of Fontaine, a one-handed sword has been added to the fishing line. Versatile in use due to its characteristics, it's not just for "looks" and is now in the hands of many characters. "Fleuve Cendre ferryman": How to Get It

The reason fish was mentioned in our previous dialogue is that, as before, the sword can be obtained through the Fishing Guild. The location of the "shop" can be seen in the photos below.

To exchange, you will need to catch:

• 4 pieces of "Maintenance Mek"

It can be exclusively caught from 18:00 to 6:00 near Mont Automnequi.

• 10 pieces of "Rippling Heartfeather Bass"
• 10 pieces of "Blazing Heartfeather Bass" 
• 12 pieces of "Marlin Axe"

South of Kur-de-Fontaine, Fountain Lusin, the sea around the Opera House.

To fish, you need to craft the bait "Repair Mechanism Spark": 1 Marcotte and 1 Iron Fragment (you can also buy them from a merchant for 3 Marcotte, but obviously it's cheaper to create them yourself). Awakening materials are purchased separately.
