Somewhat Damaged in Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty: Kill or spare Song So Mi

9 oct 2023 at 13:45

Somewhat Damaged - is one of the final missions of Phantom Liberty, leading to the endings "King of Cups" and "King of Pentacles". By completing the quest, you'll finish the expansion and determine the fate of the main character. Your choice will dictate whether Vi can be cured and rid of the biochip's influence.

In this guide, we'll discuss how your choices throughout the mission will impact the ending and the decisions you can make.

How to start the "Somewhat Damaged" quest

This quest becomes available if you follow Solomon Reed's questline, actively collaborating with him and President Rosalind Myers. To unlock this mission, complete "Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos."

Reed is wounded, and Song So Mi has escaped. Vi sets out in pursuit of the girl, aiming to complete the joint mission with Solomon. The quest will appear in the mission list as soon as you arrive at the location where Song So Mi hid.

How to complete the "Somewhat Damaged" quest

Inspect the building

Vi will contact Reed and report a hole in the building where Song So Mi is hiding. Enter the premises through this gap. Inside, descend using beams and broken ladders. Upon reaching the designated area, you'll find Song So Mi's black van, which she used to ram the building. However, she won't be inside.

Follow Song So Mi's trail

A trail of Black Veil – Song So Mi's ability, extends from the van. Follow the distinctive red marks straight until you reach a room with a locked grille. If you have enough Strength skill, you can break it, significantly shortening the path.

Swim underwater

If you lack the skill level, dive into the water near the grille. Swim straight through the tunnel until you encounter a black ladder leading to the surface. Climb up and continue straight through the corridor. There will be no detours.

At the end, submerge once more and swim to the far end. Emerge when you see another ladder. Surface and converse with Johnny Silverhand, who'll speculate on your next moves. He'll warn Vi that using the Black Veil deprives the user of their soul and could be dangerous for the protagonist. What lies ahead may have long lost its human essence.

Continue forward

Your goal is to locate Song So Mi. Simply advance towards the quest marker. From where you spoke with Johnny, jump down into the abyss. Exit the water and proceed through the corridor until you hit a room filled with computers and panels. Connect to one of the computers. At this point, Reed will contact you, but his conversation with Johnny will be interrupted by Song So Mi.

She'll accuse Vi of betrayal. Song So Mi is adamant – she intends to resist Reed and won't let him take her life. For her, falling into the USA's hands is tantamount to death. And Vi is to blame for what's happening.

Continue following the Black Veil traces

Once the scene with Song So Mi concludes, turn back, exit the door, and follow the familiar red marks in a different direction. If you ever lose your way, remember that the marks always appear on electronic devices.

Upon reaching an elevator, descend to the complex's lower levels and once again talk with Johnny, who tries to provide some support to Vi before confronting Song So Mi's whereabouts.

Enter the Forbidden Zone and locate the server room

Take the elevator down to the Forbidden Zone. Keep following the unchanging trail until you reach a locked door. You need to bypass it through a room on the right, hidden by boxes, which might not be evident at first glance.

Ascend using the hatch above. Parallelly, scenes from Song So Mi's dreams will play. Towards the path's end, turn left to reach the server room. Exit to a long corridor where you'll see a silhouette at its end.

Deal with the terminals

The locked terminals obstruct your passage. The solution lies in a hint - a map indicating the devices' locations.

Return to the server room and activate the purple "Alpha" terminal. It's linked to the central computer. To hack the terminal, you must accurately enter 4 combinations that will randomly display on the screen. If you don't succeed in time, the combination resets, allowing another attempt.

Move on to the next "Bravo" terminal, located in the adjacent room, which can be accessed by jumping down a hatch. A challenge arises: trying to disable the terminal makes Vi feel extremely unwell. The only solution is to pull the cable behind the device, effectively destroying it.

Hide from the robot

Immediately after deactivating the terminal, a scripted scene with an attacking robot, intent on terminating the protagonist, will start. A classic escape scene ensues where you must rapidly exit the area to avoid demise.

From the opened door, turn left and jump down into an open shaft. Continue in one direction – just run. At the corridor's end near some pipes, you'll find a ladder leading upward – climb it.

Disable the remaining terminals

Now that the robot is behind you, deal with the remaining terminals. Enter the security room and follow the corridor from where you saw Somi's memory of the surgeons who performed surgery on her. The area will be patrolled by a robot. It's advised not to be seen by it or to engage in open combat. Move between covers.

The "Victor" terminal is located behind locked doors. Restore the power to open the door and hack the terminal. Wait for the robot to leave before moving to the next device.

Head back towards the sign that says "Machine Department". The "Sierra" terminal works similarly to the "Alpha" terminal – just enter the sequence in the correct order within the given time. Beware of the robot – it's not going anywhere.

Escape from the robot

Yet again, a chase. It will be unexpected – be ready to face the robot after the memory scene of Song So Mi about Rosalind Myers. It starts as soon as you open the next passage with the control panel.

The chase is similar to the previous one. Run forward until you come to a left turn. Hide in the bunker and go through the opened door. The chase will end, and you can continue following Song So Mi's tracks.

During the descent, the girl will contact you and inform you of her exact location.

Disable the core control center

You'll need to use computers in different rooms and solve a minor puzzle. Only after that, approach the central panel and start the process of disabling the core.

If you've leveled up your Intelligence to at least level 20, turning off the computers will be much easier. If not, follow the rooms with computers:

  • Temperature Control Point;
  • Neural Network Control Center;
  • Digital Fortress Control Center.

In all three cases, after you've dealt with the devices, a robot will enter the room. Be ready to hide each time and find cover to avoid capture.

After completing the computer tasks, return to the panel and finally disable the core control center. This action will trigger the robot again, which will investigate what happened. Escape is not an option – it's advised to hide in any dark corner and wait it out.

Descend into the core

After the robot's attack, Song So Mi will appear again, shedding more light on her difficult and ambiguous fate. The girl is hurt by the fact that the USA used her as a puppet to achieve their goals. She will tell you that working for the USA has literally destroyed her life, leaving her without everything dear to her – happiness, family, and freedom.

How to deal with Song So Mi: kill or let her live

After the dialogue with the girl, you can decide Song So Mi's fate. The choice you make will lead to two different endings of the DLC.

Ending "King of Pentacles"

Song So Mi believes that death is the best outcome for her fate. She can't imagine serving the USA again and undergoing their cruel experiments. Even though Reed himself believes in the sincerity of the government's intentions and his own desire to cure Song So Mi, the girl begs Vi to kill her, not to subject her to torture.

To let Song So Mi live, repeatedly refuse her request for death. In the end, a refusal option will appear, and Song So Mi will be in despair. The essence is that only this choice will allow Vi to heal and not die himself.

Ending "King of Cups"

This is unlocked if you agree to kill Song So Mi. Rosalind Myers will not like this decision. She will fire Vi, pay him 5,000 credits, and send him on his way.

It's up to you to decide the fate of Song So Mi and V. In fact, the ending with the killing can be considered "good", especially regarding Song So Mi, who forgave Vi's betrayal and asks for help.
