The Phantom Liberty expansion continues the story of the mercenary Vi from Night City. The protagonist continues to search for a cure that will allow them to get rid of the influence of the biochip and save themselves from a slow death.

This time, assistance in getting rid of the chip will be offered by Song So Mi “Jay” – a netrunner with incredible skills and the right hand of President Rosalind Myers. In exchange for the cure, she will ask to help the president and save her from being pursued.

The request from Jay will turn into a whole adventure, which can lead to 6 unique endings, of which 4 are main. Moreover, some of Vi's choices can lead to premature endings, which you will also learn about in the guide.

How to get all Phantom Liberty endings

Premature endings

You can complete the expansion long before completing all the story quests. There are two ways in total:

  • During the mission "Hole in the Sky". After talking with Jay and the shuttle crash, you will need to find the ship with the president and find out if she is still alive. If you ignore the mission and leave the search area, Jay will become very angry and start threatening the main character. In the end, she will even try to kill Vi. Johnny Silverhand will save the main character, approving Vi's choice and saying that cooperating with US agents is not the best way;
  • During the mission "Lucretia My Reflection". After Vi first meets Solomon Reed and takes him to the refuge where Myers is hiding, you can refuse to participate in the rescue operation. After the companions start discussing plans, choose the answer option: "You're right. I'm out." and confirm your choice. At this point, the Phantom Liberty storyline will be completed.
 Note that there will be no opportunity to return to the passage of the Phantom Liberty quest chain again. Achievements for premature endings are also not provided.

King of Swords

Achievement that can be obtained during the mission "The Killing Moon." The quest is unlocked after the previous mission "Firestarter," if you follow Jay's storyline and do not participate in a joint mission with Solomon Reed. To do this, in the "Firestarter" quest, help Jay escape.

During "The Killing Moon" mission, you will meet Jay, whose strength is running out. She urgently needs a cure that can be obtained by taking a shuttle to the Moon. Vi can also be cured with it. Your task is to help the girl reach her destination while Reed and Myers try to capture you.

When you reach the spaceport and board the train to the shuttle, Jay will reveal her biggest secret. In fact, there's only enough medicine for one person. Essentially, Vi is left out in the cold. Here, the main character can change their stance, contact Reed and inform him of what happened. Even if you don't contact him, he will show up after a while when you and Jay arrive on the shuttle.

To unlock the "King of Swords" ending, hand Jay over to Reed, either in exchange for the medicine or without any compensation. If you choose to trade Jay for the cure, Vi will be healed. If you give Jay away for free and refuse treatment, Vi's act will impress both Johnny and Solomon. The former will say he's glad to change his opinion about the main character and didn't expect such a noble gesture. It can be said that this is one of the most dramatic good ending variations.

Reed promises to help Somi and bring her back to life, but it's likely she will have to answer for her betrayal against the USA and serve them for the rest of her days.

Turning to one of the other endings – "King of Pentacles," - it can be understood that this is far from the best fate for Somi. But more on that later.

King of Wands

The second possible ending in Somi's path. The difference is that you need to refuse Reed, kill him, and still help Jay reach the shuttle. To reach this ending, keep refusing Solomon in dialogue, then shoot him. If you hesitate, Reed will shoot first, and Vi will die. Don't worry – you can replay this moment.

The shuttle will fly off with Jay onboard, and Vi will be left without the medicine. Johnny will be by your side, supporting the main character and commenting on the events. All Vi can do is watch the receding vessel and hope that the weakened girl survives the journey.

King of Cups

The next two endings are unlocked by cooperating with Solomon Reed. To access them, in the "Firestarter" mission, don't help Jay escape. She will manage on her own, and Solomon will order her to be tracked down. Right after, the mission "Somewhat Damaged" will begin.

During the mission, you'll need to infiltrate the building where Somi is hiding, solve numerous puzzles, and access the Core where the girl is located. Throughout the quest, you'll witness snippets of Jay's life, shedding light on her tumultuous fate, partly due to the involvement of the USA. Eventually, Somi will confess that collaborating with Myers and Solomon ruined her life, as they used her like a puppet to carry out tasks and orders.

During the conversation, a worn-out and barely alive Somi will have only one request – to kill her, so the torments don't continue, and the USA can't force her into eternal service. The prospect of such a life is torture for Jay, and death seems to be the best outcome for her.

To unlock the "King of Cups" ending, agree to kill Somi. After her death, Solomon will arrive on the scene, stating they arrived too late. Rosalind Myers will disapprove of this choice, and Vi will be dismissed from the FRU, receiving a final payment of 5,000 credits and a medal of merit.

This might not be the worst outcome, considering Somi is freed from years of torment and can finally find peace. It can be viewed as a good ending.

King of Pentacles

The second ending in Solomon Reed's storyline requires you to do the opposite – refuse to kill Song So Mi. Initially, such a dialogue option will not be available – you'll have to question So Mi's desire a couple of times, and in the end, the refusal option will appear.

Consider that this choice will also lead to the death of another companion – Alena "Alex" Xenakis.

After the conversation with Somy, Reed will reappear, helping the female protagonist escape and taking her with him. V will retain the opportunity to receive her medicine and get cured, while Song So Mi will likely continue serving the USA after her recovery – what she feared the most.

Interestingly, all the endings in which V can obtain the medicine and get cured seem like a deal with conscience, hinting that the protagonist betrayed her friend's interests.

Alternative Ending "The Tower"

Another turn of events will become available under two circumstances:

  • Following Somy's path. You handed Song So Mi over in exchange for the medicine and achieved the "King of Swords" title;
  • Following Reed's path. You refused to kill Song So Mi, handed her over to Reed, and achieved the "King of Pentacles" title.

The primary condition to unlock this ending is that Solomon remained alive and was not killed by V's shot. You'll have to give up Song So Mi either way.

After earning the title and viewing the credits, a new quest named "Closing the Circle" will appear in the task journal. This is the first mission in a series of three that will lead you to an alternative ending.

  1. Quest "Through Pain to Heaven". After some time, Reed meets V and informs her about So Mi's fate. Solomon will soon leave the Dusty City and head to a calmer place. He never managed to understand Somy's motives and goals;
  2. Quest "Who Wants to Live Forever". Reed contacts V again, updating her on the US's progress with the medicine. The protagonist can finally undergo treatment. Before that, she must meet a couple of acquaintances and leave the Dusty City for the operation. At this point, you can still refuse treatment during a call. Johnny appears, thanking V for her decision and promising they will find another way to remove the chip;
  3. Quest "Things Done Changed". The final mission. V wakes up after the operation, seeing Reed before her. He reveals that the mercenary was unconscious for several years. The chip has been successfully removed, and now V is healthy but lost the ability to use her implants.

Unfortunately, no one can help V with her implant issue. She is forced to start a new, ordinary, and peaceful human life, devoid of the charms of a mercenary's life. Completing the last quest will lead to "The Tower" ending.
