Possible Field Modernization Options for Different Classes and Levels of Armored Vehicles in World of Tanks

In the latest update 1.14 of the game "World of Tanks," developers introduced a new option called "Field Modernization." What is this feature? What are its capabilities, and how can it be useful for gamers?

It turns out that this is an additional setting that is applied to elite vehicles. The same applies to reward, special, or premium tanks. The ability to change parameters becomes available from the sixth level and extends to the tenth level. Basic upgrades are available for all types of armored vehicles starting from the sixth class.

The same applies to paired upgrades. Special modifications are available depending on the level. For example, from the sixth to the eighth level, players can install an additional set of equipment and ammunition. And this can be done before the battle starts. What is the purpose of this?

When the countdown begins, players can assess the capabilities of their vehicles. Is the tank in the front lines of the team? Armor-piercing rounds are sufficient to deal with the enemy. Is the vehicle in the lower ranks? Having enhanced ammunition (sub-caliber, HEAT) is necessary for successful shooting at the enemy.

The special modification III expands the scope of using additional equipment. For example, in the case of tank destroyers with powerful armor, if a British tier nine tank encounters a team with three tank destroyers, it is preferable to choose a set of enhancements that protect against high-explosive shells. These enhancements could include spall liner, enhanced hardening, and altered layout.

The vehicle becomes more resistant and will not be heavily damaged by the enemy. In cases where accuracy and the use of Tortoise cannons are required, players can choose another package of additional mechanisms. These could include stereoscopic rangefinder, improved gun sight, and enhanced aiming drives.

From the eighth to the tenth level, if necessary, players can unlock the special modification IV. This allows assigning a category to the second slot of additional equipment. What does this mean? The first slot contains enhanced ventilation. Its base value is a 5% increase to crew skills and abilities. If it falls into a category, the parameter is increased by one percent. The second slot also improves slightly.

The standard paired modifications from the second to the fifth are available for vehicles from the sixth to the eighth level, from the eighth to the ninth level - II-VII. At the tenth level, all field modernization capabilities are available. It should be noted that each stage that unlocks additional abilities requires the expenditure of combat or free experience. The higher the vehicle's rank, the more experience is required.

What does the application of basic or so-called paired upgrades provide? The point is that each stage allows improving one mechanism at the expense of reducing the performance of another. Let's take a look at how a light tank can be upgraded.

When the countdown starts, the player can assess the capabilities of their vehicle. Is the tank at the forefront of the team? Armor-piercing shells are sufficient for engaging enemies. Is the vehicle at the lower ranks? Having enhanced ammunition (sub-caliber, cumulative) is essential for successful shooting at the enemy.

The special modification III expands the scope of using additional equipment. As a simple example, for tank destroyers with powerful armor, when a British tier-nine tank enters battle against a team that has three tank destroyers, it is preferable to choose a set of enhancements that provide protection against high-explosive shells. These could include anti-splinter fuses, reinforced hardening, and altered arrangement.

The vehicle becomes more assault-oriented and will not be heavily damaged by the enemy. In cases where precision and Tortoise guns are required, another set of additional mechanisms can be selected. These could include stereo tubes, improved sights, and reinforced aiming drives.

What does the application of basic or so-called paired upgrades provide? The point is that each stage allows improving one mechanism at the expense of reducing the performance of another. Let's take a look at how a light tank can be upgraded.

Light Tanks

When unlocking all levels of field upgrades, light tanks receive a 3% increase in chassis rotation speed and five durability points. It's not much, but it's better than nothing.

Paired modification II offers either an increase in engine power or a boost to speed. For a tank that cannot stand still and engages in active reconnaissance, a two-kilometer-per-hour acceleration will be preferable. Modification number five offers the option to protect the vehicle against high-explosive projectiles, reduce crew concussion time, or increase reverse speed.

"Artillery suitcases" are deadly, so it makes sense to choose protection. Modifications 7 and 8 allow improving either view range or stealth, enabling better detection of moving enemies or those concealed in vegetation. Here, players must make their own choice based on the specific vehicle model.

Medium Tanks

The first two upgrades provide the ability to improve speed characteristics and reduce gun dispersion during movement and turret rotation. Upgrades 5 and 7 also increase speed but worsen stealth and view range. The last upgrade strengthens the chassis or makes the vehicle more maneuverable.

Heavy Tanks

Perhaps the most significant opportunities for field upgrades are provided to heavy tanks. No. 2 allows improving the chassis and making the tank more maneuverable. Number 4 enhances the technical characteristics of the gun, enabling faster aiming. Modifications 5 and 7 partially neutralize the effects of high-explosive projectiles, specifically their concussive impact on the crew. The most "tricky" modification is number 8. On one hand, there is the possibility to strengthen internal modules and accelerate the repair of a damaged tank, while on the other hand, it increases the gun's characteristics.

Tank Destroyers

For tank destroyers, the developers have prepared a whole package of various enhancements. No. 2 allows improving the chassis or making turret rotation faster. No. 3 allows either increasing accuracy or reducing gun dispersion after firing, thereby increasing aiming speed. Paired modification five allows making the vehicle less detectable after firing, although at the expense of reduced view range.

Although if there are competent scouts on the team, your own view range may not be as crucial. No. 7 presents a choice: either the gun prepares for firing faster or its accuracy increases. No. 8 is the most obvious. It is clear that for a tank destroyer, the speed of gun aiming is much more important than engine power.

Self-Propelled Guns

Artillery units now have the ability to reduce their detectability after firing, albeit at the cost of reduced speed. There is also the option to reduce dispersion and loading time. The paired modification 8 is frankly amusing. There is a choice between increasing the aiming speed or increasing the durability of the vehicle.

Developers, are you serious?! Any self-propelled gun is destroyed by one, at most two, projectiles. Therefore, increasing its survivability is a meaningless endeavor!
