Craftspeople in Enshrouded - useful NPCs whose interaction unlocks new crafting recipes, items, and mechanics. In the game, there are a total of 5 craftspeople with different specializations: a blacksmith, an alchemist, a hunter, a farmer, and a carpenter. To interact with each NPC, you need to complete a unique quest to free them. It's important to rescue the characters in a specific sequence, and you'll learn where to find them and how to free them in this guide.

Why Free Craftspeople in Enshrouded

Without craftspeople, you won't gain access to many useful recipes and will be significantly limited during gameplay. Freeing all craftspeople is one of the player's priority tasks.

All Craftspeople in Enshrouded

Below, we'll describe in detail how to find each NPC, what needs to be done to free them, and what opportunities are unlocked. Before starting, make sure to build a base where you'll place the rescued craftspeople.

Blacksmith

Blacksmith Oswald Anders - the first craftsman you must free. Only after that will other NPCs become available. After this, the sequence of liberation does not affect the game - act at your discretion.

Oswald is a strong gray-haired man resembling a Viking and the first inhabitant you can place in your base. To get the quest to find the blacksmith, build the Flame Altar and interact with it. The NPC's location will be indicated on the map.

You need to make your way through the Shroud and find the ruins where the blacksmith's crypt is hidden. Go inside and deal with all opponents to clear the passage.

Oswald is a reliable companion who will help create equipment and weapons. Without his skills, you won't stand a chance in battle against powerful enemies. Build the blacksmith's shelter on your base, where the NPC will reside. Oswald will provide access to the forge, mining quests, and weapon crafting, as well as new recipes: furnace, hook, glider, and more.

Alchemist

Alchemist Balthazar - a man in a cloak with a staff. He is a skilled artisan whose skills will be useful for creating potions and using a laboratory. Freeing him is not so simple - it is recommended to level up to level 5 before attempting to rescue the character.

The mission to rescue Balthazar opens after creating a hook and glider. After that, a marker will appear on the map - head to the Springlands and find the Harvest Homestead ruins. The alchemist's crypt will be located in the center of the enemy camp - you'll have to engage in combat. After placing Balthazar on the base, you'll gain access to the laboratory, new potions, spells, and an alchemy station.

Hunter

The mission to rescue Hunter Athalan Skree opens immediately after freeing the blacksmith, without additional actions or quests. Just wait for the mission marker to appear on the map. Note that the place you're about to go is quite dangerous and filled with traps.

Head towards Braelyn Bridge and cross it to the large plateau where the mission marker will be located. Along the way to the hunter's soul, you'll encounter traps. There's no specific strategy for navigating them - just try to notice and avoid them in time. Reach the staircase at the end of the corridor and ascend to the altar.

The main advantage of Athalan is the ability to significantly expand inventory space. This will be particularly useful when exploring the world and collecting resources. Therefore, it's recommended to rescue the hunter early on, especially if your character doesn't specialize in magical damage.

Carpenter

Carpenter Cade Hawthorne - a red-haired, one-eyed master with mechanical hands, whose liberation will allow you to use new tools, improve existing equipment, such as the glider, and decorate the base with furniture and decor. This useful NPC will appeal mainly to those who enjoy building and organizing their base. Among the useful things he unlocks are the industrial oven for making bricks, a table saw, and magic chests for storage.

The carpenter's crypt is located near the Shroud in ruins. Follow the marker on the map and descend into the dungeon. Defeat the enemies and proceed to the altar to obtain the carpenter's soul.

Farmer

Farmer Emily Fray significantly expands the farming and gardening capabilities. You'll be able to plant new crops on the base and obtain food from your own fields. Build a beehive for honey, a stove, fireplace, and hearth

To find Emily's soul, return to the ruins where you previously rescued alchemist Balthazar. Proceed further into the dungeon until you reach the marker. The mountain path will lead you to new ruins with traps and monsters. At the end of the location, you'll find Emily's altar and be able to settle the farmer at your base.

We recommend starting the search with the blacksmith and carpenter. The blacksmith unlocks access to the glider and hook, and the carpenter helps improve them. Having this equipment will help you reach hard-to-reach places where the other craftspeople are located.
