Every player strives to obtain black metal in Valheim, as it can be used to create the highest quality equipment in the game. Acquiring this material is not an easy task.

Where and How to Obtain Black Metal

In order to craft cool armor for yourself, you will need to gather a considerable amount of black metal ingots. You can obtain them by defeating goblins (shamans and brutes are also a good option). You will encounter these creatures for the first time only in the middle of the game - not earlier. They live in the Plains. 

In this part of the map, there will be a huge number of these creatures, so you won't have to search for them for long. Don't forget about even more dangerous enemies – mosquitoes. We recommend simply avoiding them.

How to Build a Smelter in Valheim

Once you have collected the metal, you can start building a smelter for melting the metal. To begin construction, you need to defeat Moder – the keeper of the Mountain biome. The blueprint will be automatically given to you when you obtain Dragon Tears. 

To build a smelter, you will need the following materials:

1. 5 Surtling Cores. You can obtain them in the Black Forest, specifically in burial chambers;

2. 10 pieces of iron. To obtain ready-made ingots, you will need a smelter. 

3. 20 stones. Obtaining this resource won't be difficult. If you enjoy action, kill Graydwarfs. 

4. 20 pieces of fine wood. It can be obtained from oak or birch using a bronze axe. 

Don't forget that you will need Dragon Tears to craft a stool for the workbench. Once you have gathered all the necessary materials, you can create the smelter, add coal, and smelt the black metal. As a result, you will have black metal ingots and powerful equipment.
