Ghosts of the Past is the first major case in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One. This mission tells the story of a missing diamond and a thief that you'll have to find.

In this guide, we'll tell you how to complete the "Ghosts of the Past" case in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One and what to do with Lord Craven and Luka Galic in the end. Let's get started!

Walkthrough for "Ghosts of the Past" in Sherlock Holmes Chapter One

Part 1: Seance

This mission will start right after you deliver the lost cane to the sailor in the Prologue. Then, head to the seance room to trigger a short cutscene. You'll learn about the conflict between Luka Galic and Lord Craven as well as the mysterious disappearance of Lord's diamond after their argument.

So, follow the instructions below to complete the first part of the "Ghosts of the Past" case:

  • First, examine Lord's portrait: no ring, swollen face, rich and fashionable, recently hit someone with force.

  • Examine the room where the seance took place: a cabinet, broken furniture, stains, and items on the table.

  • After that, you'll have a lead from Lady Craven about an outsider, so don't forget to go to the special menu and pin it with a pin. Then press "Q" to see hidden items. Look around and follow the glow, which will eventually lead you to a shoe storage room - examine it.

  • Initiate a conversation with the maid, and you'll learn that your target is upstairs, not far from the paintings.

Next, you'll need to recreate the assault scenario in the following sequence:

  • Lady saw someone and pointed to the window.
  • Lord was about to throw a chair (the person on the left of the woman).
  • Luka summoned fog (the person on the right of the woman).
Part 2: Murder

The case is not yet over, so:

  • Go upstairs and listen to the maids' conversation. Then choose the following options: was on guard, can't use a fish knife, drugged her man.
  • Go to Lord Craven's room - you will witness a gruesome scene. His woman is dead, and it turns out she wasn't Lord's lawful wife. Then the man will start telling you that he is not guilty.

  • Examine her body, and you'll find the missing diamond. Don't forget to search the entire room, especially the nightstands and the entrance door connecting to the adjacent room.

  • Go downstairs to reach the bar. If you have the "Lord's explanation," approach and talk to the bartender.
  • Find the hotel manager. He will give Sherlock the key to Room 225, where Luka is (it turns out his room intersects with Lady Craven's room).
  • Create a portrait of Luka. Note: before becoming a medium, he was involved in something else.
  • Thoroughly examine the room: papers, boxes, and a sample of ectoplasm. You'll need to perform additional actions with the ectoplasm: conduct a special analysis.

Who is the killer - Lord Craven or Luka?

So, after completing the investigation, you should have 2 suspects:

  1. First option: Lord - the killer - he could have committed the crime because he found out about the stolen diamond from his mistress. She had shown signs of theft before but always found a scapegoat. This incident put an end to it all.
  2. Second option: Luka - the killer - if you found certain details during the investigation (scratch marks, 2 pins, and access to the victim's room), then you can confidently draw conclusions. The man was acquainted with Lord's woman during their criminal activities (based on matching pins). The woman had previously betrayed him, leading to his imprisonment - this time she wanted to do the same, framing Luka for the diamond theft. That's why he took care of her (scratch marks and access to the victim's room) before Lord arrived in the room.

We chose the option "Luka - the killer" and punished him. However, remember that there are no right or wrong choices in the game - to execute or pardon is solely your moral choice.
