Character classes and their abilities in PayDay 3
In PayDay 3, there is a full character progression system, just like in the previous installment of the popular series. Character progression directly affects gameplay style, as the game features a class system. When assembling your crew, it's important to choose characters with the right progression, or complications might arise. For instance, if you prefer an aggressive approach rather than stealth, your crew will need medics, assault specialists, a tank, and an ammo specialist. In this guide, we'll delve into the classes in PayDay 3 and what they are capable of.
Character Classes in PayDay 3
Even in the initial (release) version of the game, there are numerous classes for various gameplay styles, each with its own characteristics, active abilities, and passive skills. Additionally, most skills can be upgraded multiple times to make them more powerful. The game features 3 basic buffs that can be gained upon activating abilities (apart from the abilities' actions):
- Edge. Grants a 10% damage buff.
- Grit. Provides a 10% defense buff.
- Rush. Increases movement speed.
To unlock and enhance skills, you'll need to fulfill additional conditions related to them (for example, eliminate a certain number of enemies using turrets, and so on). Let's explore the main character classes in PayDay 3.
Medic
One of the core classes is the Medic. These characters can not only support allies in combat but also heal them by providing medkits. This class is well-suited for open combat heists but becomes nearly useless in stealth mode. The primary goal of medics is to help allies restore their health. As such, medics revive allies much faster than other classes and receive a series of bonuses after reviving, depending on skill progression.
Ammo Specialist
This class is also designed for open combat heists. The character has increased ammunition capacity and can provide allies (and themselves) with ammo, enabling extended heists and shootouts. Not particularly effective for stealthy gameplay.
Sharpshooter
This class is intended for players who enjoy tactical gameplay. Take up a proper position, fend off enemies, and become a true sharpshooter. The character gains bonuses while stationary.
Grifter
A tactical class with an advantage in reconnaissance, even before masks are donned.
Gunslinger
A character skilled in shooting almost any type of weapon. Characters of this class prefer to constantly switch weapons and receive bonuses when switching between different weapon types.
Tank
Characters of this class have increased health. They are meant for open combat, as they have high defense stats and can absorb a significant amount of damage.
Infiltrator
This class excels in stealth gameplay. It can hack various objects covertly, gaining different buffs during the process.
Other Classes
The above-mentioned classes are the most common ones, but there are numerous other options catering to narrower specialties:
- Hacker. Characters of this class easily hack technical devices (e.g., cameras);
- Engineer. Can deploy auto-targeting turrets that eliminate enemies;
- Escapist. Effective during the escape phase;
- Tactician. Plan the heist down to the smallest detail;
- Demolitionist. A character proficient in using explosives of all types. Not suited for stealth gameplay;
- Strategist;
- CQC Specialist;
- And various other classes/subclasses.
