Kingdom Come Deliverance 2: what we know so far

Soon, Warhorse Studios will present us with Kingdom Come Deliverance II - the long-awaited sequel to the first part of the series about the journey of young Henry (Indrejich), who decided to avenge the murder of his family and the destruction of his village. The main character stands against the invaders of Bohemia

The project took more than 6 years to develop. Since the release of the official trailer a little over a month ago, a lot of information has come from both the developers and the players themselves, who are building their own theories and guesses about the upcoming release. In this material, we have collected all the information currently known about Kingdom Come 2: from the release date to the gameplay features.

Improvements in the combat system of Kingdom Come 2

Players often complained about the weak and inconvenient combat in the first part. The problem was that no matter how you upgraded the character, his skills and abilities, even a weak Cumans could knock the hero down with a few hits.

The combat system seemed complicated but was based on perfect parries and endless thrusts in an attempt to break through the opponent. The artificial complexity led to players struggling with the simplest enemies. In general, it takes a long time to get used to the combat in the first part.

In Kingdom Come Deliverance II, the developers have simplified the combat system. The game mechanics will become deeper and more interesting, but this will not affect the difficulty. Perhaps the developers realized the mistakes of the first part and decided to make the combat more accessible to casual players who are not ready to spend much time mastering parries and all five attack directions.

What engine will Kingdom Come 2 use?

Warhorse Studios surprised players by choosing CryEngine instead of Unreal Engine 5, on which most modern high-budget games are created. The developers explained this choice by saying they had already worked with CryEngine, and most of the internal pipelines are built on this engine. Not all players approved of this idea - some are already predicting bugs and FPS drops, believing that no engine can deliver better graphics than Unreal Engine 5. Only time and the game's release will tell.

Where does Kingdom Come 2 take place?

Kingdom Come 2 directly continues the storyline of the first part. The events should begin from the same place where they ended. The region remains unchanged - 15th century Bohemia, now the Czech Republic.

The plot of Kingdom Come 2

In the first part, Henry did not manage to avenge his parents and get back at the antagonist - Sigismund of Luxembourg, so he will probably continue to pursue his goal. In the trailer, we repeatedly see the king who caused all the main character's troubles. The developers promise scale: both in terms of the story and the open world. More quests, territories to explore, and options for the development of events.

Gameplay changes in Kingdom Come 2

Save system

Saves - another issue that will make old fans shudder. In the first Kingdom Come, you could not save progress anywhere, for example, in the menu at any convenient moment.

It was much more complicated: you could only save at checkpoints. The save happens automatically, but only when you take a quest or reach an important plot point. Meanwhile, there could be several hours of gameplay between auto-saves. It was very easy to die from a random hit and lose hours of progress.

Currently, there is no information on whether the save system will be changed in Kingdom Come Deliverance II. Some players hope for this, while others believe there is nothing critical about saving in a classic manner like in Souls genre games - in a safe place. After all, many old and modern games are built on this principle.

Character progression

Most likely, players will not be able to import Henry's skills and abilities from the first part. The hero will have to be leveled up from scratch, choosing the starting stats. However, there should be several times more skills and abilities.

Consequences of choices

The second part should be more flexible and varied. Henry can choose different behaviors in quests and make decisions that will affect the further development of the plot, more significantly than in the first part. Some choices may cause minor troubles or lead to jail, while others can completely change the attitude of secondary characters towards Henry and even the game's ending.

Game performance: work on optimization

From the trailer, it can be seen that the graphics in the second part, although pleasant, are not enough to produce a "wow" effect. The developers reported that the game on a PC with an AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 Super stably holds at 60 FPS on a 4K screen at high settings. On "very high" settings, FPS also remains at 60, but some dynamic scenes may drop.

Mod support in Kingdom Come 2

There has been no exact information about mod support yet However, there should be no issues - the first part supported mods well, and it is unlikely they will be abandoned in the sequel. After all, modifications are not only fun additional content that diversifies the game world but also bug fixes that the developers often miss.

On which platforms will Kingdom Come 2 be released?

Kingdom Come 2 will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Windows PC. You can purchase the game in the Steam, Epic Games, PlayStation, and Xbox stores.

Release date of Kingdom Come 2

More details on when to expect the official release of the second part can be found in a separate article. In short: nothing is known yet, but players are hoping for a full release at the end of 2024, at the latest - in the first quarter of 2025.
