Since the beginning of 2019, fans and members of the Hollow Knight community have eagerly awaited news about the upcoming sequel, Silksong, which will bring players a completely new experience. But at which point will the sequel diverge from the various endings of the original? And will the story be connected at all?

It is obvious that there will definitely be a connection to the first part, as Hollow Knight fans would be very upset if there were no narrative ties to their beloved game. Who wouldn't want to see even the slightest hint of Hallownest in the second part?

Hollow Knight Endings

When it comes to analyzing the storyline of Hollow Knight: Silksong and its predecessor, the task becomes a bit more challenging because the developers themselves have stated that there is no one "correct" ending (not to mention the various DLCs in the game). So, it remains a matter of speculation as to which ending will serve as the continuation or prequel to Silksong.

The original release of Hollow Knight had three endings, one of which is considered the most successful (the ending where the player defeats the source of infection), while in the second ending, the Hollow becomes a new vessel. Both endings send the main character to the Void, either to become a perfect vessel for the last villain, the Radiance, or to destroy it and free Hallownest.

Then the Godmaster DLC was released, which introduced two more endings to the world of Hollow Knight, both of which could directly lead to a new storyline following Hornet in Silksong.

Is Hollow Knight: Silksong a sequel or a prequel?

Many players speculate that Silksong is actually a prequel. In that case, the story would revolve around Hornet's adventures, leading to her return to Hallownest and her encounter with the Hollow Knight (with time intertwining with the events of the first part). On the other hand, some players speculate that the ending of the Godmaster DLC may be connected to the second part.

If you don't remember, in the finale of the DLC with the Grimm Troupe, a new villain appears - the Void Entity. It is quite possible that this character will play a central role in Silksong. In our opinion, this is a very good basis for a sequel.

There is another fact that suggests viewing the game as a sequel only: initially, the developers did not plan to make a new game as a continuation, but rather wanted to release another expansion. The initial plan was to continue Hollow Knight from where the previous game left off - that's how most expansions work.
