Genshin Impact Guide: "The Catch" All Acquisition Methods, Upgrading

17 sep 2021 at 20:20

In update 2.1, a new mechanic called fishing was added, along with unique rewards for achievements in fishing. One of these rewards is the 4-star polearm "Catcher," which becomes an excellent alternative to the 5-star Primordial Jade Winged-Spear. From the weapon description, it can be learned that it previously belonged to the Inazuman pirate Ako Doméki from the island of Seirai. This guide will tell you who should use the "Catcher," how to obtain it, and where to find the required fish for it.

Who Should Use the "Catcher"

It can be equipped by any character who uses a polearm, but it won't be effective for everyone. Its main characteristic is energy restoration, and the passive effect increases elemental explosion damage by 16% and grants a chance for critical damage with the same skill by 6%. Therefore, it will be useful for characters who play around this ability:

  • Xiangling
  • Shogun Raiden; this polearm will be particularly effective for her as her passive ability gives her a bonus electro damage based on a percentage of her energy restoration.
  • Rosaria

It's possible that the "Catcher" may also be suitable for Thoma, the recently announced Pyro polearm user from Inazuma.

How to Obtain the "Catcher" Polearm

To start, you need to unlock access to fishing by completing a world quest that can be accepted from Katheryne in Mondstadt under the following conditions:

  • Adventure Rank 35 is reached;
  • The Liyue story questline is completed, including the quest "A New Star Approaches";
  • Access to the Serenitea Pot is unlocked.

After completing the quest and obtaining the fishing rod, it's recommended to practice fishing and catch the most common fish to unlock recipes for bait crafting. It will be challenging to catch the required fish, and the bait received from the quest will not be sufficient. All recipes can be obtained from the merchant Nantuck near Mondstadt.

Next, you need to go to Inazuma and find Kujirai Momiji. You can find her near the teleportation point not far from the city's shore. To acquire the "Catcher" polearm, you will need to trade three types of fish since no fisherman merchant will accept mora as payment. The evaluation for the "Catcher" is as follows:

  • 6 Raimei Angelfish;
  • 20 Golden and Steel Medakas each;

To increase your chances of obtaining the polearm, you can purchase the Inazuman Fishing Rod. Once you have caught the required fish, return to the merchant and make the exchange.

Where to Catch Fish for the "Catcher" Polearm

Raimei Angelfish

You can only find it in the waters of Inazuma, specifically in one location to the east of Kannazuka Island. Raimei Angelfish only appear at night, and you should fish for them from 6 PM to 6 AM in-game time. The bait required is the False Worm.

The fishing spot is located near the wreckage of a destroyed ship, where you will encounter Abyss Mages (Electro) and highly aggressive Cryo Slimes.

Important: The water emits light due to the abundance of Electro, and staying in it will deal significant damage to your character. Try to avoid getting frozen and avoid staying in the water to prevent death.

Golden Medaka

You can find it in all regions, but there are more fishing spots in Liyue. The False Fly is used as bait, and you can fish for it at any time of day.

Steel Medaka

It inhabits the same waters as its golden counterpart, except for Mondstadt's region. The fishing spot in this area is on the opposite shore across from Nantuck. It bites on the same bait, the False Fly, and can be found at any time of day.

Interesting: if both false dragons are visible in the fish listed as inhabitants of a particular body of water, but only one species is currently in the water, try catching it and wait a bit - a relative may appear after that.

"Catcher" Polearm Enhancement

Unlike most other weapons, "Catcher" requires a special awakening material called "Ako's Wine Measure," which can be obtained from the same Kujirai Momiji. There is a limitation on purchasing this material - you can only buy 4 of them. The strength of the passive effect depends on the awakening stage and increases by 4% per level, raising the elemental explosion damage from 16% to 32%. Each awakening stage also provides an additional 1.5% critical hit rate. To acquire one awakening material, you will need the following fish:

  • 3 Raimei Angelfish;
  • 10 Ordinary Medakas;
  • 10 Bitter Medakas.

In total, you will need to catch a significant amount of fish to obtain the polearm and fully awaken it:

  • 18 Raimei Angelfish;
  • False Dragon: 20 Golden, 20 Steel;
  • Medaka: 40 Ordinary, 40 Bitter.

Medakas can be caught in all regions using False Flies regardless of the time of day. Bitter Medaka is a rarer species, so it may be more challenging to obtain.

Since the polearm is obtained in Inazuma, you will also have to farm the materials for its ascension there. The required items are as follows:
