What new weapons to choose from the battle pass (BP) in Genshin Impact 4.0

29 aug 2023 at 13:58

Not even a thousand years have passed since the composition of the rewards for the paid Battle Pass (BP) was updated. And the update was quite good, giving us plenty to ponder: the competition between the old and the new; the most cost-effective choices; a clear spectrum of character owners; and subjective value assessments.

All of this (and a little more, considering the accompaniment of personal, subjective opinions - which are, of course, absolute nothingness within all the possibilities you have) is discussed and compiled in the article, ready for you to dive into. You will learn which weapon is better to choose from the new BP weapon series in Genshin Impact 4.0+.

Which New Weapon to Choose in the BP

“Wolf-Fang” from the BP: Who It's Suitable For, Is It Worth Getting

The most important and critical aspect is the additional critical rate, which doesn't work out of the field. This means that someone like the hypothetical Albedo (whose signature weapon, "Kinovari," received by no means sparing newcomers from the event on Dragonspine) won't be able to run around with this sword (or won't want to) considering their usual gameplay.

Among the potential wielders, Kayea and Ayaka - who've seen and experienced enough critical rate and are likely saturated with it, Kirara (for damage), and al-Haitham. Perhaps the latter would appreciate the sword more than anyone else present. Can he compare it to "The Black Sword"? Let's say they are both situationally debatable.

“Talking Stick” from the BP: Who It's Suitable For, Is It Worth Getting

This reminds me of a modest foundation for the future improved Crystallize, solemnly promised by slivers in the Navia skillset. But since we're realists here and not clairvoyants, we rely on what the claymore offers us now. And it offers a questionable pleasure in three main aspects of functioning (remember and keep in mind that the weapon's passive effect depends on the character's effect, not infusion):

  1. Using Bennett 24/7 - because his ult applies Pyro;
  2. Playing through the Burning reaction - because you usually burn along with the enemies;
  3. Playing through Vaporize, especially with Kaveh - for pretty much the same reason as point №2;
  4. You're firmly committed to following a clever plan of getting hit by a specific element.

The conclusion is as follows. Satisfactory for anyone interested in dealing damage. Competition with "Serpent Spine"? Here, fortunately or unfortunately, "Serpent Spine" wins without a doubt.

“Sacrificial Jade” from the BP: Who It's Suitable For, Is It Worth Getting

Regarding mechanics, there's nothing I can draw from in-game descriptions (at least until I can test them myself). With the "Characters" section, an interesting story emerges. Both future and current Neuvillette mains should consider this catalyst without prejudice and appreciate it as the strongest after the signature one (both the first and fifth BP awakenings).

Baizhu, those who are quite desperate without alternatives like Nahida, Yae, and Lisa in the elemental mastery build, and sudden crit-focused Kokomi - why not? - will perform quite well with it in the future. Like the "Black Sword" paired with the "Wolf-Fang," both are too specific to compare. But it wouldn't be entirely hopeless to bet on the appearance of potential carriers in the future. After all, Fontaine, the upcoming region, vigorously promotes native HP stats and all its attachments.

“Scion of the Blazing Sun” from the BP: Who It's Suitable For, Is It Worth Getting

The buff is unpleasant in that it only affects a single enemy. Additionally, the downside could be that not many current archers base their gameplay on a large number of attacks (which is directly related to the high base of the weapon's mentioned effect).

Mainly for those characters who don't spread their damage among skill and ultimate abilities. Typical representatives include Ganyu and Tignari. Slightly worse, but still passable performers would be Amber and Lyney. A comparison? I think I should define a specific combat situation: against a boss - "Scion" leads with applause; in a crowd - due to the "The Viridiscent Hunt" pull effect, it's better in some places. However, the lack of profitable carriers as such (except for the lonely Tartaglia) dampens all of this.

“Ballad of the Fjords” from the BP: Who It's Suitable For, Is It Worth Getting

A multifaceted and wonderful polearm. I'm not even exaggerating its theoretical merits. Suitable for Hu Tao, Cyno, Raiden (vegetational, partially or fully), Rosaria (counter to Taunt), Xiangling, and YaoYao (technical YaoYao for damage or thereabouts).

Just like catalysts, both "old" and "new" polearms have characters of diametrically different types. But where they intersect and compete (on the mentioned characters), "Ballad" is almost always better.

In Conclusion

As before, selectively balanced. Perhaps it would be tempting to say that nothing has changed, but that's not true. The range of choices has significantly expanded, keeping pace with the increasing variety of characters, and that's wonderful. It's good that the weapon lineup hasn't completely replaced the existing one but rather supplemented it.

Wishing you successful decision-making!
