How to get clay in Enshrouded

Clay in Enshrouded is a resource needed for construction and crafting items. The problem is that clay cannot be found in the starting locations, so you'll need to explore the world a bit to reach the clay deposits.

In this guide, you will learn where to find clay in Enshrouded, what it is used for, and how to use it in crafting.

Where to Find Clay: Main Locations

Clay deposits are located on large black boulders and have a characteristic orange-brown color. Here are the locations where you can find them:

  • Near the Farmer's Altar, north of the crypt;
  • Between the Flame Sanctum and Willow Crush village, directly on the slope. Getting to this point can be difficult, so use a hook and glider to stay on the cliff;
  • In the territory of Willow Crush village - a small deposit;
  • On the cliffs east of Willow Crush;
  • Further east from the village and closer to the Sanctum, if you follow the map - slightly below the previous point;
  • At the top of the mountain in the same area. The easiest way is to climb along the long path between the mountains.

Start from the point marked on the map - that's where the path starts from the ruins with the Farmer. Note that near each of the specified points there are level 11 enemies. We do not recommend visiting these places if you are not sufficiently leveled up. Clay will not be useful in the very early stages of the game and will only be needed over time.

If you want to find even more clay, head north towards the red Shroud. Here, there will be significantly more deposits, but the territory will be much more dangerous.

How to Mine Clay

To mine clay, you only need a regular pickaxe. The material is malleable and easy to mine. To refresh the clay deposits, reload the game session. Note that after this action, all in-game items and resources will be restored. After mining, a Lump of Clay will appear in your inventory.

How to Use Clay

Clay will primarily be needed after rescuing one of the Craftspeople, namely the Carpenter. About who these Craftspeople are, how to find and rescue them, a separate guide has been provided.

The Carpenter is a useful NPC who significantly expands crafting capabilities: adds new recipes, tools, items, furniture, and decor. Thanks to them, you can upgrade your glider and hook to access even more hard-to-reach places. With clay, you can craft an Oven, roofing block, food oven, explosive powder balls, and more.
