Stability in Valheim: How to Build a Large Building So It Doesn't Collapse

15 mar 2021 at 11:31

Build a large structure in Valheim that will withstand the test of time and numerous raids - it means laying the foundation correctly and understanding how building stability works in the game.

In this guide, we will tell you about the physics of structures in the game Valheim and how to build a large structure that will be sturdy and won't collapse. Let's get started!

How to Determine Building Stability in Valheim

The best way to determine the stability of a structure during construction is to hover the cursor over the structure while selecting the hammer. Dragging individual parts of the structure with the Hammer, without pressing any buttons, will cause the part to light up with a certain color. The color will indicate the stability of the component.

The scale looks as follows:

  • Blue - very stable structure.
  • Green - stable structure.
  • Yellow-Green - less stable structure.
  • Yellow - poorly stable structure.
  • Orange - unstable structure.
  • Red - most unstable structure.

After Valheim players unlock stone buildings, the scale becomes even more challenging (as stone is heavier than wood material).

User duploq on Reddit shared a useful chart to better describe the colors of the stability spectrum in Valheim.

Instability of yellow, orange, and red parts of the structure can be mitigated by adding any support.

Supports for Structures in Valheim

While leveling the ground in Valheim using a cultivator can help make the structure more stable - wooden beams and log supports will greatly reduce the instability of your structure. By adding support, players can turn a red part of the structure into yellow.

There are several types of supports for buildings that players can build themselves. They are listed below in order from weakest to strongest:

  • Wooden poles.
  • Wooden-iron poles.
  • Stone poles.

Adding supports on both sides of the wall or roof can significantly increase the stability of each component.

Here is a demonstration of how they work:
