How to get married/get married and become a parent in Mount and Blade: Bannerlord

4 nov 2020 at 16:15

In the entire Mount and Blade series, weddings have played a very important role. The main character could marry a representative of nobility to solidify an alliance with a neighboring kingdom or with a vassal. This system went even further in Mount and Blade: Bannerlord. Here, developers added a full-fledged clan system, weddings, childbirth, and aging. In other words, characters are not immortal (including the main character). They age, die of old age or diseases, and all their inheritance is passed on to their children or other clan members. All of this is well-developed, although not everyone likes the system, as no one wants to lose the character they played for a very long time. There are mods that stop aging, but that's not the focus right now.

It is very important in the game to get married and have an heir or heiress, so that if anything happens, there will be someone to rule over your land and inheritance. Getting married in the game is not as difficult as it may seem and directly depends on just one skill: charm. Having a high level of charm is enough, and you can easily win the heart of any young girl from a vassal family. It is important to understand that the game is still in the testing phase and has not had a full release, even though it is available for sale. That's why many details are not thoroughly polished, and in the end, after several updates, we will be able to have a complete wedding system.

How to Get Married

To get married, first and foremost, you need to become famous and raise the level of your clan. At the moment, you cannot marry wanderers (companions), only representatives of nobility who are not in a relationship with anyone. Here's what you need to do to guarantee the bride's consent:

- Become a renowned lord.

- Increase the charm skill of the main character.

- In the charm skill branch, make sure to level up specific skills. Among the skills, there are some that increase the chance of critical success or decrease the chance of critical failure. And, of course, you need to take the skill to improve persuasion with the opposite sex.

All of the above is not mandatory, but if you don't follow them, the persuasion process will become a real nightmare. In addition, you will need money because it's not suitable for a vassal family to marry a member of their family to some ill-fated braggart. Make sure to have at least 10,000 denars to give the money to the relative. Well, it's too early to talk about that.

- First and foremost, go to the girl you want to marry, have children with, and live happily ever after.

- Start a conversation with her, selecting the option to discuss something with her.

- A new dialogue window opens where you need to declare that you are her biggest fan and listen to her reaction.

Seems like that's it, but it's not that simple. Next, a long process of persuasion and communication begins (actually, only 2 stages). After declaring yourself as her biggest fan, you need to wait 1-2 days and return to the lady. Once you've returned, you need to declare that your intentions are serious and you need to talk about your future relationship, which opens up the persuasion window. If you have a well-developed charm skill, you won't have any difficulties persuading the lady (or lord). However, it is highly recommended to save the game before the conversation, so that if the attempt fails, you can reload and try again.

As expected, after successful "negotiations," the lady needs time to think it over. Wait another 1-2 days and go back to her to propose marriage. Of course, she is not ready to take such a step on her own, and you need to convince her. Save the game again and start negotiations with the lady. After successfully persuading her to marry you, she will ask to discuss the details with her relative (brother, clan leader, father - she will tell you with whom to discuss everything). And this is where we need a purse full of jingling coins.

Go to the lord for negotiations to ask for the hand and heart of her relative, and immediately find out that they don't need beggars. What can you do? You have to loosen your purse strings to win the heart of the lady. Start negotiations and offer the lord money, horses, armor, items - anything. The main thing is to fill the bar and make a profitable deal. He gets the loot, and you get the lovely lady. A fair deal. And of course, they promise to hold a celebration, a great wedding where everyone will be invited - but nothing like that, such content has not yet been added to the game, so the lord will simply take your money, deceive you, and won't even invite you to the wedding (disappointing, to say the least). What can you do? Wait a few days, go to your wife, offer her to join your party, or leave her in a city or castle - it's simple. Congratulations, you're married!

After the wedding, your wife leaves her old clan and becomes part of your clan. You can appoint her as a governor and do many interesting things. Now, let's talk about becoming a parent.

How to Become a Parent in Mount And Blade: Bannerlord

"Children are the flowers of life." This motto works perfectly in Mount And Blade: Bannerlord. In essence, children are your future allies and even your future character, as your main hero can meet his end due to illness or old age. It's crucial to have an heir to ensure that you don't leave all your inheritance to some stranger or unknown person. But here's the strange part - you don't have to do anything at all for your wife to get pregnant. Sounds odd? Yes, but that's how it is in reality.

The thing is, you can simply leave your wife in a city, not visit that city, and after some time, you'll find out that she's pregnant. Can you guess who the father is? Well, it's you! It's like magic, they say there's no magic in Mount And Blade, only realistic medieval battles with cold weapons. But what can you do? Since she's pregnant with our child, and DNA tests weren't conducted back then, we'll have to believe, accept, and love.

After the birth, your child will grow up, and you'll be able to interact with them like any other NPC. However, the most interesting part begins when the child becomes an adult, as you can then recruit them into your party, train them in various skills, and even pass away, making your son/daughter a vassal of a kingdom or even an emperor (if you happen to be one). The cycle of life in Mount And Blade. That's how easy it is to get married and become a parent in this game.
