Kaeya is one of the F2P characters that players receive for free at the beginning of Genshin Impact. The guy has an interesting story behind his appearance.

How Kaeya Gained His Vision in Genshin Impact

The story behind obtaining the Eye of the God is mentioned in his character description.

Once, a huge monster attacked a convoy accompanied by Diluc and his father, Crepus. Crepus attempted to strike the monster but couldn't withstand its power. In the end, Crepus was consumed by the enemy's evil energy.

To free his father from unbearable agony, Diluc took his life. As Diluc's adopted brother, Kaeya was always by his side, except on their father's final day.

When Kaeya learned about this situation, he smiled and said:

"This world is truly full of surprises... how fascinating."

This event awakened Kaeya's selfish motives as he struggled between the teachings of his biological father from the Ragnvindr Clan and his father figure, Diluc's father, who raised him. After the latter's death, all the questions vanished, and Kaeya felt relieved.

In the end, Kaeya decided to reveal his dreadful thoughts to Diluc, but he immediately faced his fury. While they fought, a tremendous cryo elemental force surged through Kaeya, stunning both of them. That's how he gained his Eye of the God. After that day, Diluc bid farewell to his stepbrother and chose a different path.

Kaeya's Story in Genshin Impact

In reality, Kaeya prefers to keep his past undisclosed.

Being an agent of Khaenri'ah (his homeland), Kaeya worked undercover in Mondstadt. According to what Kaeya told Varka about his past, he and his father once passed by the Dawn Winery during a terrible storm.

Coming up with an excuse to fetch some grape juice, his father went far and never returned. Kaeya was abandoned in the night during the storm until Crepus Ragnvindr took him in.

But the truth was different. His father mentioned him as the last hope for their homeland, Khaenri'ah, which did not worship any gods. In the Archon quest "We Will Be Reunited," players will learn more about this mysterious nation. Presumably, the city was destroyed by the archons because they despised a nation without any god.

Master Crepus, the former owner of the winemaking industry in Mondstadt, adopted Kaeya and treated him as his own son. Kaeya and Diluc Ragnvindr grew up together, protecting Mondstadt from all dangers until a great tragedy struck Crepus, taking his life.
