Explanation of Miranda's Mother story
The depth of character and backstory of Mother Miranda in Resident Evil Village immediately caught the attention of fans. As the game progresses, it is revealed that she is the leader of other villains. Her story begins deep within the game's universe and has an interesting connection to Umbrella Corporation.
In this article, you will learn about who Mother Miranda is in Resident Evil Village and the role she plays in the Resident Evil universe. Let's dive in!
Mother Miranda's Origins
Mother Miranda quickly became the main antagonist of the game, as she commands a total of four lords. Players who only have a surface-level understanding of the character may not grasp the significant role she plays in the outbreak of the megamycete.
Most of Miranda's description is found in texts and notes scattered throughout the game's universe. So, uncovering every detail about who she truly is can be challenging.
Miranda's Past
General information about Miranda's character manifests in the form of her daughter, Eveline. Eveline was born in 1909, and the events of Resident Evil Village take place in 2021, making Miranda at least 100 years old.
Miranda lost her daughter to the Spanish flu in 1919 and blamed herself for not being able to save her. This led her to create a virus in an attempt to resurrect her lost daughter, as depicted in one of her diary entries.
She grew up as a priestess and scientist before becoming the monster known to players in Resident Evil Village. Her intellect became fortified once she came into contact with the megamycete, which linked her to others who had touched it.
The Unnamed Founder of Umbrella
Another interesting aspect of Miranda's past is that she crossed paths with the founder of Umbrella, Oswell Spencer. The corporation's logo is based on a version of Miranda's symbol used for the four lords.
Spencer obtained samples of the mold from Miranda when he encountered Resident Evil Village before the establishment of Umbrella. So, in a twisted way, Mother Miranda helped found Umbrella.
Transformed Vessels
Lady Dimitrescu was the first successful transformation of Miranda using the resurrection virus of Eveline. This led Miranda to favor Lady Dimitrescu. All the others Miranda infected in the village turned into lycans and other creatures.
In the end, Miranda spread the megamycete among the other lords and considered them as potential vessels for resurrecting Eveline. However, the mutations that grew within each lord disqualified them as suitable candidates.
Resident Evil 7
Mother Miranda's past led to the creation of the main antagonist of Resident Evil 7, Eveline. She came into contact with a group called "The Connections," who created Eveline using a sample of Miranda's mold.
Miranda sought various ways to create the perfect vessel for resurrecting her daughter, but she was not satisfied with their work and deemed Eveline as an imperfect vessel.
Resident Evil Village and Resident Evil 7 come together after Miranda is informed about Rosemary Winters, Ethan 's daughter. She kidnaps Rose as a last attempt to find a suitable vessel, thus laying the foundation for the conspiracy in Resident Evil Village.
