Guide to Invasion Mode in Mortal Kombat 1
Invasion is a new seasonal single-player game mode introduced in Mortal Kombat 1. The essence of this mode is that players participate in battles against stronger opponents than in the story mode. The location you'll explore periodically refreshes.
On your journey, you'll encounter enemies, puzzles, and chests that need to be opened by solving puzzles. In general, there's a lot of content, and we'll explain how to play the Invasion mode in more detail.
How the Invasion Mode Works
The Invasion mode visually and essentially resembles a board game. You control a character and move around a top-down perspective location. In the story, Liu Kang explains that the universe is suffering from invasions by other multiverses and enemies that you'll have to deal with.
After a short cutscene, you can choose your main character and Kameo fighter. As you move through the game board, you'll complete tasks – engage in battles, solve puzzles, undergo trials, and more. For each successful action, you'll earn valuable rewards and a special currency called Seasonal Kredits.
By the way, playing the Invasion mode is an excellent way to farm coins and experience. Keep that in mind.
Johnny Cage's Location
The first place you'll visit in the Invasion is Johnny Cage's Mansion, the Hollywood actor and one of the playable characters in the Mortal Kombat series.
He's known for his cheerful nature and jokes. He stands out from other canonical Mortal Kombat characters, especially with his caricatured impersonation of Jean-Claude Van Damme. His mansion is fittingly filled with trophies and luxurious items that pamper his ego as a star.
Features of the Mode
Leveling Up and Character Selection
Every time you complete a trial, your character's level will increase, and their abilities will be enhanced. Importantly, not only the selected character but all available heroes will level up. You can switch to a new character at any time, and they will be at the same level as the one you played before. You can also change equipment. Keep this important point in mind so that you don't think you're limited to playing only the character you initially chose.
Which character attributes are improved when leveling up:
- Health;
- Attack;
- Defense;
- Agility;
- Special Attacks.
Talismans and Relics
Talismans and relics are special items that will enhance your hero's abilities and provide passive beneficial skills. You can change the set of talismans to suit your playstyle or the selected character. They can be upgraded in the Armory.
Elements
Each character has a set of elements that affect their strengths and abilities. For example, the Fire element increases resistance to Fire and Blood elements, but the character will be less resistant to the Ice element. Some characters wield multiple elements simultaneously. You can learn more about how each element works in the table.
Rewards and the leaderboard will change every season, so you're unlikely to get bored with this mode. Before diving into Invasion, we recommend taking the tutorial and a couple of story battles, especially if you haven't played Mortal Kombat series games before and are not yet familiar with the basic mechanics.
