Pour water next to the lava block so that two liquid sources are adjacent. That's when you'll get obsidian. Remember that it can only be mined with a diamond pickaxe.

The book is crafted from 3 sheets of paper and leather. Leather can be obtained from cows, horses, mules, donkeys, mooshrooms, and hoglins. It can also be crafted from rabbit hides. After obtaining the leather, you need to acquire paper. To do this, find sugar cane and arrange it in a single row on the crafting table. Done! You can now proceed to craft the book.
