How to get to the Nether (Minecraft)

25 dec 2021 at 12:07

This guide will show beginner players the basics of the Nether. First, let's find out why the Nether is even needed in Minecraft.

Meaning and Benefits

The Nether is an additional dimension in the game. It is the only place where rare resources such as quartz, netherite, and blaze rods can be found. Quartz is used for crafting mechanisms, netherite is used to upgrade diamond armor and tools, and blaze rods are needed for brewing potions.

In the Nether, you'll encounter unique mobs that can't be found anywhere else. Among them are ghasts, magma cubes, striders, piglins, and others. Additionally, the Nether is home to various blocks such as soul sand, netherrack, soul soil, and more.

And of course, let's not forget that the Nether is an endless source of lava. It can be found everywhere, even generated between blocks of netherrack, which sometimes complicates mining operations.

How to Enter? How to Build a Portal?

To enter the Nether, you'll need a portal. It is created using 10 obsidian blocks, which are obtained by combining water and a lava source. You need to pour a bucket of water next to an existing lava block. Alternatively, you can use a bucket of lava first and then add water. All this is done to prevent creating cobblestone, which is an important detail that beginners often overlook. Also, keep in mind that obsidian can only be mined with a diamond pickaxe.

Once you have the necessary number of blocks, you can start building the portal itself. Here's how: place 2 blocks on the top and bottom, and 3 blocks on the left and right sides. You should have an empty frame made of 6 blocks. After that, simply ignite the bottom surface with a flint and steel. Done! Now you can travel STRAIGHT TO THE NETHER!

To enter, the character just needs to stand in the purple frame. After 5 seconds, the body will "dissolve," and the player will be transported to another dimension. If you exit the frame before the teleportation is complete, it will be interrupted. After the transition, you can return using the generated portal. Just make sure not to break it. Plus, you don't want to lose any broken obsidian, as it significantly reduces the player's chances of a successful return.

Additional information: players often add 4 more obsidian blocks to the edges of the portal structure, although this is not necessary. You can also make various additions to the existing portal without affecting the teleportation mechanism between dimensions.

Onward to New Adventures!

After entering the Nether, the player will discover a whole range of new possibilities. Here, you can begin searching for necessary resources or simply explore the new dimension, battling numerous mobs. In any case, further actions depend on the specific player's desires.
