The main drawbacks of Far Cry 6
Here is the long-awaited Far Cry 6. The developers have advertised their game in various ways: promising a return to the roots, creating a beautiful game world, interesting characters, new gameplay possibilities, additional quests, and an intriguing storyline. Yes, the sixth installment of Far Cry is much better than the fifth part and New Dawn for various reasons, but it is not without its flaws. Today, we will discuss the main drawbacks in Far Cry 6 that make the game worse. Keep in mind that this does not mean we are calling the game bad. We are simply pointing out the drawbacks (according to our opinion and the opinions of many other players). And here we go!
Boring Additional Quests
It must be acknowledged that the sixth installment of Far Cry has made a huge leap in terms of the quality of additional quests. There are some interesting missions that are enjoyable to play. And, of course, the legendary mission where you have to set fire to fields of illegal narcotics. Such a mission is present in almost every part of the game; it has become a tradition.
However, most of the additional quests are very boring and only suitable for farming money, experience, and other resources. Yes, sometimes even these minor quests are mentioned in dialogues. For example, if you don't complete a certain quest, there is a chance that the character will remind you that if you had obtained an item for them, completing another task would have been much easier. But overall, it doesn't have a significant impact on the game.
The repetitiveness of the tasks is a trademark of Ubisoft. You will have to frequently go and liberate prisoners (hello Far Cry 4), eliminate targets, hijack vehicles, deliver cargo, destroy enemy vehicles, and so on. The most frustrating part is that the developers didn't even add something like cutscenes, as they did in the fourth installment. Now, obtaining additional quests feels more like looking at a bulletin board. It would be great to see more interesting quests, but alas!
Huge Map
Perhaps this is the biggest downside of Ubisoft games. They create very large maps. It would be foolish to deny that these maps are created with great quality. The problem lies more in the gameplay aspect because there is absolutely nothing to do there. Everything is standard - capture outposts, fight, kill the leaders of these regions to reach the main antagonist.
Interesting quests are rare, and the only goal of capturing these outposts is to unlock the fast travel feature since traveling from one edge of the map to the other is a real torture!
Minority Issues
It has become trendy to overtly address minority issues in games and movies: racial minorities, LGBTQ+ communities, and others. Yes, these issues can indeed be very serious. However, Far Cry 6 and many other games are not quite the appropriate place to address these problems.
Imagine the situation: you are fighting against a dictator who has turned the country into hell, made its residents slaves, and kills whoever he wants. There is a real war going on, and then some transgender character starts talking about how difficult it is for them to be accepted as they are. And, agree, it looks simply repulsive against the backdrop of such games. In some games, this aspect is integrated very well, but Ubisoft didn't even make an effort; they implemented it in a very awkward manner. This aspect immediately stands out and evokes exclusively negative emotions.
Ranking System
Ubisoft has long promised to remove this annoying feature from the game. In Far Cry New Dawn, for example, there were enemies with a "skull" symbol that were almost impossible to kill, and you had to first level up, upgrade weapons, and so on, to have a chance to defeat them. Admit it, it looks silly when you spend a whole magazine and give dozens of headshots, and the enemy only loses a portion of their health.
This feature has become much more tolerable in the game, but it still remains. You can still encounter characters in the game world that cannot be defeated easily, and it requires inflicting tons of damage to take them down. This system is designed solely to make the player complete various additional quests to level up the character, improve equipment. And all of the above is done with only one goal - to prolong the game's completion as much as possible.
Removal of the Skill System
Throughout the Far Cry series, there has been a skill progression system that allowed you to play the game the way you wanted. However, Far Cry 6 turned this system into something unclear. Now you won't find a skill menu in the game, and skills are tied to items. In other words, you can complete the entire game without finding the item you need to acquire the skill that suits your playstyle. This is done in a completely absurd manner!
Microtransaction System
Ubisoft has long admitted that they turned their games into a microtransaction service. Unfortunately, Far Cry 6 also includes microtransactions. If these microtransactions were purely cosmetic, there wouldn't be any issues, but very often, the microtransaction options impact the gameplay itself. The game is designed in a way that makes you want to make microtransactions to progress faster. This is a rather disrespectful attitude towards the players, but it is worth noting that in the sixth installment, microtransactions are less intrusive than before.
These were the main drawbacks in Far Cry 6 that we discovered during our playthrough. Soon, an article will be released highlighting the main advantages of Far Cry 6, as the game has indeed improved compared to the previous two parts in all aspects (almost). In the meantime, feel free to write in the comments which aspects you didn't like in Far Cry 6!
