Full Breakdown of Cyberpunk 2077 Gameplay

3 dec 2020 at 11:31

You (V) are a hired criminal in a cyberpunk future where megacorporations and modified body implants are the norm. V's story unfolds in Night City, a metropolis consumed by power and glamour. It's a place where gangs control the city districts and where the words of major corporations hold more value than police laws.

Being V means playing a smart, ambitious mercenary equipped for executing top-notch hacks and taking down the strongest enemies. In the world of Cyberpunk 2077, there is no such thing as a free ride. V must earn a lot to stay up to date with the latest trends and modifications in Night City.

DIFFICULTY SETTINGS

STORY MODE

This is the easiest difficulty level, designed for players who want to focus primarily on the storyline.

EASY

In this mode, enemies have lower resistance and deal less damage. This option is perfect for players who want to delve into the story and spend less time on combat.

NORMAL

The default setting offered by the game. In this mode, V is less resilient, making combat much more challenging. This difficulty is recommended for most players who want to experience the game well (combat gameplay included).

HARD

This mode is designed for those seeking adventures and a tough challenge. It makes V significantly weaker and enemies more formidable. Players who want to test their skills or those who have already completed Cyberpunk can confidently choose the hard mode.

UPPER DISPLAY

The upper display/HUD (Head-Up Display) provides players with crucial information to help them stay alive during combat (at the very least). There are also elements that appear only in special cases, such as enemy health bars.

  1. Health: The red bar indicates V's health level.
  2. Experience Panel: When you complete missions and improve skills, you gain experience on the blue meter (located above the health bar). Once it fills up completely, the counter resets, and you gain a new level.
  3. Level: The number displays V's character level. It represents the overall strength of the character and recommended quests.
  4. Memory: The memory on your cyberdeck is used for every action (works like mana in any other game). It slowly replenishes over time.
  5. Quick Access: V can access the phone or call a taxi using the quick action.
  6. Quick Consumables: V can quickly access boosters or food. Items must be pre-set on the inventory screen.
  7. Weapon Statistics: (from left to right) The blue number indicates the current number of bullets in the magazine. Spare ammunition is denoted in red. The weapon symbol shows your current weapon type.
  8. Controls: Depending on V's action (whether it's walking, driving, or combat), a series of prompts appear for proper control.
  9. Quest and Objectives: Displays the current quest name and a list of objectives for its completion. Objectives will update as you progress through the current quest.
  10. Mini-map: The mini-map shows V's current location. Enemies in the line of sight are marked with flashing red dots, and defeated enemies are marked with crosses. Additionally, shops, fast travel points, and waypoints are displayed on the mini-map. The color border of the map indicates three states: safe, public, and combat. The current in-game time is indicated below the map.

MOVEMENT

WALKING

Information will be updated after the game's release.

CLIMBING AND JUMPING

V can leap over small obstacles, climb on boxes, or ascend ledges. By pressing the sprint and jump buttons, V can perform a double jump.

DRIVING

V controls cars and motorcycles. In a car, you can use the handbrake, radio, and even switch to combat mode (shooting from the window).

Two camera views are available while driving: first-person and third-person perspectives.

You can also use taxis if you really don't feel like driving. Of course, it's not free. Learn more about the types of cars in Cyberpunk 2077.

SWIMMING

You can swim and dive. These skills will come in handy during quests.

FAST TRAVEL

You can use the NCART or Night City Area Rapid Transit for fast travel around the city.

SCANNER

Every cyberpunk in 2077 has already installed a cyberprogram software scanner to gather information about people and various objects. V receives a scanner installed in their artificial eye. The only mandatory implant in the game is the Kiroshi optical scanner. For more information about scanners, read here.

PHONE

Everyone in Cyberpunk 2077 has a mobile phone, and V is no exception. You can receive messages and calls from friends or intermediaries, as well as use the phone to communicate with others. The phone is accessed through a hotkey.

DIALOGUE

Conversations are a crucial part of any RPG. V can engage in dialogues and react differently to the situations that arise. Depending on what V says, the conversation can escalate or calm down.

Each time a conversation contains important information, the choice is highlighted in yellow. Blue dialogues do not contain essential information that could affect the plot in any way.

SPECIAL CHOICE

Some dialogue choices may have a timer. The player must make an important decision within a few seconds.

Another type of special choice is a special action during dialogue (drawing a gun or starting to shoot). This option will be highlighted in a different color to avoid unintended choices.

EQUIPMENT

V is a modern mercenary and needs good equipment. They can carry weapons, clothing, implants, food, ammunition, and loot. Learn more about weapons in Cyberpunk 2077.

COMBAT

The main character excels in hacking skills as well as ranged and melee combat. There is always the option to avoid a fight or combat. Additionally, V can use various boosters during combat (stimulants) to gain an advantage. More detailed information will be described in the combat guide.
