"Find the missing cargo" in Baldur`s Gate 3: how to open the safe and is it worth it
"Find the Missing Cargo" is an optional quest that appears after discovering a looted caravan at the Crossroads location. The player's task is to decide what to do with the cargo and whether it's worth taking for themselves.
How to Start the Quest "Find the Missing Cargo"
Head to the Crossroads location and make your way to the cave marked on the map. A dialogue will automatically start, followed by a battle with gnolls who have captured two survivors.
Talk to the Leader
In the conversation with the leader, who can assist in the battle, choose the response options:
1) "Search her mind for the source of the Voice";
2) "You're her only pack! Command her to devour the other gnolls."
If you pass the check and answer the questions in the specified order, the leader will be on your side during the battle with the gnolls. After the battle, you can decide the fate of the leader: kill, release, or make them "devour themselves."
Talk to the Survivors
After the battle and dialogues with the leader, you can talk to the two surviving travelers. You can obtain the chest without a fight using two methods: intimidation and persuasion. If you fail the check and simply demand the chest, a battle with Rugan and Ollie will begin.
Enter the Cave
Approach the chest, right-click on it, and transfer it to your inventory.
After this event, the story branches.
Open the Safe
In this case, you'll need to pass a Dexterity check to unlock the chest. Inside the safe, there will be an Iron Flask, which, when opened, will trigger a battle with the Watcher boss. There won't be any valuable loot from it, and other endings are closed.
Take the Safe to the Zhentarim Hideout
In the second case, head to the Waukeen's Rest and approach the man guarding the entrance. If Rugan revealed the password earlier, use it, or use the checks. Then, descend to the basement, where you'll meet Rugan (if not killed earlier) and the leader of the Zhentarim gang.
Here, two choices are available:
1. Kill Rugan, but gain the gang's trust and the ability to trade with them;
2. Leave Rugan alive (he'll simply leave later), but close off interaction with the gang.
Regardless of the choice, the safe will remain in your inventory until further sale, and the quest will be completed.
